When I ran this experiment, it was on our 2014 337RLS with an Atwood Refrigerator. I think I'll repeat it on our 2017 297RSTS with the Norcold reefer. As soon as we get a hot day, I'll run the data and post it.

Some time ago, when I couldn't get my fridge working I was advised by a service tec to pull the unit out and turn it over on it's top. I did that, which got it working, but one thing that was very obvious to me was the lack of insulation on the fridge. Since that time I have been looking for a reliable remote temperature unit. Anyone out there with a good suggestion would be appreciated.

I wonder what the trade off would be running the fridge off the batteries while driving and charging the batteries through the truck umbilical? Would they offset? That would be a renewable power source. Heck, it would also save propane which is getting pretty expensive and I try to conserve it in case I need to run the generator, which really goes through it.
So this is a thread that is 3.5 years old.
I wonder now will my ‘18 F350 with two extra duty batteries and TWO extra heavy duty alternators provide enough to maintain the charge of the RV batteries to maintain the fridge electrically. Is this true now because it seems a lot safer?

A side question is it recommended to have 2-3 batteries in parallel in your GD and if so what type and name or will basic deep cycle batteries be sufficient? ( what does GD provide in stock batteries?)

I can tell you that my 19 F350 with dual alternators only puts out 10 amps through the trailer plug. I am debating running a larger wire back to the trailer from the truck to get more charging amps to the trailer batteries, but leaning towards just putting that money into solar.

On the battery question I run four 6v golf cart batteries (two sets in series and those sets in parallel), and I find the capacity to be good. I can go two or three days dry depending on my usage. Rather than add more battery capacity I will be doing solar this spring to extend my usage when dry. Lots of threads on here about battery choices, wet 12V, 6V golf cart, AGM, or even lithium. Your trailer most likely came with a 12V wet battery of relatively low capacity. If you want to run multiple they should ideally be the same size, type, and age, so basically you throw away whats on there now and start over.

GD does not supply the battery this will come from the dealer. If you are considering running your fridge while traveling you will be running on gas as well as battery. When doing this to be safe when getting fuel or stopped at any gas station you should turn off the propane.
