We've moved on and are at Hungry Mother State Park, still in VA. Nice park, the full hook up Campground sites are just outside the park on route 16 the road is called "The Back of the Dragon". Inside the park only a hand full of sites would hold our 303 comfortably. The road is a fun one to drive, Not as scary as the "Tail of the Dragon" in TN, also more scenic. We arrived at Fort Wilkins State Park in the Keweenaw Penisula in the U.P. in Michigan on Tuesday. It was a good travel day from Ely, MN though slow as mostly it was 2 lane roads through many small towns. We decided to stock up at a Walmart Supercenter but that put us in the campground at 9 pm in the dark manuevering into a tight campsite with a couple of flashlights...it weren’t pretty to watch or listen to! This area is very scenic...Lake Superior shoreline and the fall colors...also ...
We're at Douthat State Park, White Oaks Campground. Very nice park, the campground is one of the quietest we've in. Will be departing here on Wed. Still tossing around the next stop. Forgot to mention I've been enjoying using all my new kitchen things that we won at the GD rally from Grass Haven. All pretty nice stuff!
Shhh, don't tell the camping gods but we are about to leave the driveway!! After a summer full of mishaps and delay after delay after delay we are FINALLY getting to go out for more than 5 days. Heading southeast to VA and will follow the Blue Ridge Mountains south as they change colors for about 6 week. Will keep you all posted as we wander about. Happy Trails to all!
We're really enjoying our stay at Bear Head Lake SP near Ely, MN. It's a very beautiful area as the photos show. Don't think this be our only stay at this park! Dave
