I'm sorry, but Dallas is not the northerly route. The real northerly route would be I-70 thru Grand Junction, Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis and then turn south thru Paducah and Nashville.
The middle route is I-40 thru Flagstaff, Albequerque, OK. City, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta and south into Florida. That's I-40 to I-65 in Nashville and I-75 south of Chattanooga. It's preferable from Northern California.
The real southerly route is so far south that it'd be very expensive to take from Northern California. It's I-10, and just getting thru Texas alone is 895 miles. It's pretty boring to me, and expect the roads in Louisiana to about beat you to death. The distances in Florida are also deceiving, as it's 425 miles from Pensacola to Tampa going the short 4 lane highway--and longer on I-10. There's still over 250 miles to South Florida from Tampa.

I live in Florida and would also advise I75. I95 is not bad north of Palm Beach County, but once you get south of there......its horrible. I would suggest taking u.s. 27. You can get on it around Ocala in N. Florida. I believe most is 4 lanes. A lot of semis travel this road so there are several large truck stops on the way. It will also take you to the FL Keys. Its a very long drive to the keys. I live between Tampa and Naples and its 6ish hours to get to Key West. If you have time find some of the fresh water springs in central Florida area and spend a few days there. Don't know if your into it, but in Kissimmee there is one of the best nudist resorts in the U.S. Cypress Cove Nudist resort, at least thats what ive been told.

Be careful around Las Cruces and El Paso. Son went to school in the area and lots of crime / unfriendly types. Friends had stuff taken from their truck bed wile getting dinner there. Good fuel stop west of Las Cruces if I remember correctly. Also in west Texas the speed limit on the interstate is very high (80 if I remember) so watch out for folks coming up on you before changing lanes. Have a safe trip

X3 for taking I-75. Depending on where you're trying to get to in FL will determine your next route. WRT taking US27, I'd personally stay on I-75 all the way to the Florida Turnpike, which you'll pick up near Wildwood, FL. From there take the Turnpike to US27,which you'll pick up just south of Brampton Village, then take US27 all the way down to Hialeah, get back on the Turnpike and go as far south as you wish.
One other point: Get a SunPass for the tolls. Best $10 you'll ever spend.

fwiw...... We traveled a lot between Denver and FL. If you go through Dallas you are too far south for anything in the south but MS, AL, FL. We finally decided we don't care for I-70 through Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis and down to Nashville. You can come into Tennessee on I-40 and run the whole length of that to SC. Elvis/Graceland is in Memphis, Nashville is great if you like music. Not much between Nashville and SC for us. Maybe hit Chattanooga and then across the top of GA into the Carolinas. From the Carolinas we like I-77 or I-26 to Columbus, SC then I-26 to I-95.
We live on the east coast of FL in Titusville. When going to the the keys the only route for us is I-95 to Fort Pierce and the FL Turnpike all the way to Florida City. If you do any FL turnpike travel pre-apply and get a FL Sunpass transponder; the tolls are well worth it in S FL.Larry KE4DMG

As for the I40 middle route. When you get to Amarillo you can head south to Lubbock and then on to San Antonio, or catch 287 and run south east. Before you get to Dallas cut over on 82.

Hey Mike,
We were in the keys at a resort on Marathon Key. Lots of good restaurants in that area.
Food:
This is a very popular place... you must try the Stone Crab Claws: https://www.keysfisheries.com/
Another good place: https://islandfishco.com/
This place also good with a good sunset view: http://www.sunsetgrille7milebridge.com/Home
This very little place is where it seemed most of the locals ate. So if you want some good Cuban food check this out, also low cost. We did find that no one spoke English but we got by:
You also must have some "Hog Fish" when down there. They eat shell fish and take on the flavor of shell fish. La Nina Restaurant, 1571 Overseas Hwy, Marathon, FL 33050, https://www.google.com/maps/place/La...!4d-81.1081418
Visit Sites in Keys:
This is a very popular place to see and feed Tarpon, lots of Pelicans on the dock, photo opps: https://robbies.com/
Turtle Hospitable on Marathon Key: http://www.turtlehospital.org/
This place had a nice gift shop and a bar by the pool, in Key West by the southern most point: https://www.southernmosthouse.com/
Car Visit: Checked out this Park when there, pretty nice RV spots: https://www.floridastateparks.org/pa...nda-state-park
RV Visit: If you on east side near Cape Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center and are military or retired DOD there is a park that looks across the water at Cape Canaveral: KARS Park 1, https://nasaexchange.ksc.nasa.gov/KA...tion/AboutKARS Rick an I stayed here before going to Daytona 500. Think about it.... If you did your trip at the right time you can catch a NASCAR race somewhere.
One of the stops on the way back was Parker AZ. ans stayed at: http://www.lapazcountyparks.com/ Right off Colorado River. A ton of Parks in this area. If in this area a must see is the Desert Bar: http://www.thedesertbar.com/ DIRT ROAD, NOT FOR TRAILER!
I am also concerned about the time frame you are going, I hate strong side winds and that could be a problem that time of year. We were there in January and didn't have much good beach weather. When my brother Rick an I were in Florida picking up my Reflection it was in February and the weather was not to bad. Did get in a Tornado swarm in Louisiana on I-10. So I suggest getting MyRadar App, it saves our lives.
I-10 causeways in Louisiana will give you shocks a workout and also other places on I-10.
Anyway just a few things from my memory,
