I just happened to fall into this yesterday and spent some time going through every post... awesome ideas!! Got some weekend plans already. Definitely going to square off the angle wall and add the plexiglass to see in!! I love the front storage shelf but my front compartment is full of portable dog fencing for my 3 girls. It’s the only place it all fits.
My one disappointment is I did remove the angle wall in the basement to see how much space I would gain and is it pretty disappointing the mess left behind when the unit was built!!
While open and exposed would it have been that much more effort to neatly run the wiring and blow out or vacuum up the left over saw dust and pieces of wood just left behind??? I would be embarrassed to have my name on this build. Yes everything we can see is beautiful but it would have confirmed my confidence in GD if I had opened that up and seen everything neatly run. Take pride in what you build even if not immediately visible at first glance.... at some point it will be seen.
Safe travels, happy weekend modifying and hope to meet most of you at the rally!

Is that a locking pin on the left side of the tray? Had a guy on this trip that his slide tray lock let loose going around a corner and busted the bay door and dump some the contents onto the road. I looking at drilling hole in my tray and installing a locking pin in mine.

Dennis, yes, the slide tray has a latch on the right side (yellow push/pull tab) and also a safety pin on the left side. Personally, I don't think I would ever completely trust the latch, and will be using the safety pin that goes through the slides frames and into the slide itself when moving. I would probably do that just that....drill it and buy a pin for it.

To those who have screwed into the aluminum overhead support "beams", for lack of a better word..

How thick is the metal? I see folded plastic tables hanging from that connection. My guess is that it's not anymore than maybe 1/16 of an inch. Our 2ft x 4ft plastic table is heavier than I thought it would be. I wonder how well a sheet metal screw screwed into aluminum sheet will hold up to the many bounces and jarring hits we take while traveling.

So, how thick is the metal?
    Did you brace it somehow?
Have any failed, that is, fallen down?

    Thanks
    Mike

I drilled through the tube and suspended with a bolt. That is much stronger than a sheet metal screw. I figured that, if the metal tube supported the weight of my walking on the floor above, it would support some relative light-weight items suspended from below.

I have had my 3x6 table hung from the 'beams' with sheet metal screws for over 28,000 miles.... NO problem!!!

I like Tom's thru bolt idea.

Dale, what size screw #8 , #10 , #12 ? And how long is the screw? I'm thinking the length doesn't matter much if mounted on the vertical surface because the pull is essentially straight down. But that sheet metal thickness must be awfully thin.
