Thanks! The Virginian looks good. I'll call tomorrow to see if they have space.

How early did you make your reservation? We found no vacancies for our 337.

    Thanks! Bill

I don't recall exactly but I'm thinking the outer edge had some pretty deep sites. You can find out for sure by going part way through the reservation process on rec.gov. They do give lot sizes, often the sites are a bit deeper than what is listed. Another thing I just remembered is we had to go dump at Grizzly, there is no dump there! But I wouldn't hesitate to go back if we went that way again.

Made our reservation over a month ago. One thing I'll point out - this year August is "selling out" due to the eclipse that's going to be visible during that time in that area.

Also, maybe has to do with RV length? We've got the littlest 5th wheel GD has (30').

Any recommendation for Jackson WY area and West Yellowstone?

Also planning a downward loop through Utah. I hope we don't encounter the same there!

    Thanks all!

Did you check out Gros Ventre near Jackson? It is a large CG and we stayed there a few years ago.

I haven't, but it looks beautiful. I worry a bit about the first come, first serve in an area this popular, so I made a reservation at The Virginian today. I prefer the forested NFS/NPS campgrounds to most RV parks, so I'll drive into Gros Ventre and check availability when we are there. Thanks!

Did you try Flagg Ranch at Headwaters Lodge? It is about 1/2 between Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. We stayed there two years ago and would stay again. As was said above, Colter Bay RV Village is my first choice but is tough to get into. The NFS part of Colter Bay should have openings if you can dry camp.

We really liked the remoteness of Flagg Ranch. That is some beautiful country.
