Jackson WY and Yellowstone Camping in August

My wife and I are planning a 3 week trip in August and want to spend a week around Jackson and Yellowstone, but we are finding the campgrounds are already pretty booked. We find a few vacancies, but all inside Yellowstone are full.

Any recommendation for Jackson WY area and West Yellowstone?

Also planning a downward loop through Utah. I hope we don't encounter the same there!

    Thanks all!

Well, on the Yellowstone North gate, I could recommend Rocky Mountain RV Park in Gardiner, MT. In August of 2016 we called the day of our planned arrival in the area and booked four days with them. It is small, but very clean and friendly. You're within 5 minutes of entering the north gate, about 30 minutes to Mammoth Hot Springs.

I realize not everyone likes forest camping but....We camped outside of West Yellowstone in Rainbow Point National forest Campground that had ele on the sites. We stayed for 10 days and really enjoyed that whole area. It's about 10 miles north of West Yellowstone.

In Jackson try the VIRGINIAN RV Park, right in town. Did you check at Colter Bay RV park in Grand Teton National Park http://www.gtlc.com/rv. We stayed at both of these last Summer.

We stayed at the Buffalo Bill State Park near Cody, WY. Elec/Water

We were pretty anxious to get our traveling started so ended up in that area in late March. Lots of things were still closed, including the highway through Yellowstone. So we stayed at Grand Teton Park RV Resort on highway 26 in Moran, WY. It's pretty basic, gravel, full hookup. It was open and centrally located.

Our intention was to drive through Yellowstone, however the south gate was still closed and we had to drive to Idaho Falls and then back up to West Yellowstone. There we stayed at Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park. It's a resort destination, off season price wasn't too bad, if I recall season price was $75 per night.

As a last resort if everything is totally booked, we stayed at Spring Creek Campground & Trout Ranch in Big Timber Montana. Granted it is 100 miles from the north entrance of Yellowstone. But it's not likely to book up.

Our favorite park in West Yellowstone is Grizzly RV park. It's pricey, but very well run and provides great access to the park and the town. Several restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Here's a link:

Another vote for Grizzly RV. It's not forest but a nice park in West Yellowstone. Colter Bay in Grand Tetons but we found we didn't like camping in a forestfire last year when we were there so didn't stay long.

I'm glad to see so many recommendations for Grizzly. We've booked a stay there in July. Also at Coulter Bay in Grand Tetons. We're also going to stay in the park (not Fishing Bridge, however).
