Finger Lakes Area NY
Interested in a trip to finger lakes NY area later this year and was looking for ideas for places to stay with our 5th wheel and places to visit. Any suggestions would be great the wife and I have never been in that area.

You should be able to fit in most state parks with a 303. Letchworth and Watkins Glen state parks are good choices for hiking and views. There are KOAs in Watkins Glen and Canandaigua. Most all the lakes have winery runs. As far as what to visit, I would need to know your likes/ dislikes. Take a trip to Corning and visit the glass museum. Gorgeous hiking and views in many areas. Feel free to PM me and I will be happy to give you details for any specifics. We live in the area.

As BabyBober stated, Letchworth is a great park. Also, 4 Mile Creek (right on Lake Ontario) is very nice. Cranberry State Park as well. There are literally hundreds of parks to stay in. Be sure to visit The Wizard of Clay pottery studio for some very unique pieces. Its worth the short drive: The Wizard of Clay, 7851 Rt 20A, Bloomfield NY

WD8PPW, we have also stayed at Sampson State Park, but back then we had a popup, so our perspective on size was different. We have stayed at Ives Run COE in Pennsylvania about 20 miles south of Corning. The Glenn Curtis museum in Hammondsport was interesting, and the Corning glass museum is excellent. Along with wineries you'll find lots of ice cream stands. One thing still on my list to visit are the women's rights museums near Seneca Falls.

We stayed at the KOA in Watkins Glenn a few years ago. They have a new area with pull thru sites and large cement patio’s we enjoyed our stay. Beautiful waterfalls you can walk thru. We will go back.

If you consider going to Watkins, go to the state campground up on top of the hill. We go there to the Onondaga loop because it backs up to the gorge. I've been found in the early hours sitting in my zero gravity chair with a coffee just listening to the water rush down the gorge. That campground has access to the gorge about half way up. It's a gorgeous hike up and down. BTW, it's dry camping there. Attractions: Watkins Glen Gorge, race track, Seneca Lake, wineries and distilleries on both sides of the lake. Last weekend was Keuka Lake. First time there and we'll be going back. Also consider the Great Lakes area, Hamlin, Lakeside and around the corner to Lake Erie state campground.
PM if you you'd like more details or glad to post more to the thread.

We start and usually end our season with a 5-weekend “special” at a little campground on the western side of Cayuga lake. Spruce Row is small, but everyone is friendly and the owners work very hard to keep it clean and orderly. Daily garbage pickup, extensive dog-walk paths, spring-fed huge concrete swimming pool, playgrounds, hoops, event hut, inflated jump pad, mini golf, cart- bikes to rent, and a fishing pond with paddle boat rental.
There are many parks, bike paths, fishing access points, hiking trails, boat launches nearby. In Ithaca, from the free public park, you can watch the Cornell and Ithaca College crews practicing, or just bike the trails.
Wine trails everywhere, and I’ve forgotten Ithaca Brewery!
This weekend, they are ending their season with an early Halloween celebration. Hope to have some good pics.Bruce and Nancy

Thanks, slauretani, I hope you find the forum as helpful as we have. Noting that you have a larger trailer, I would add that Spruce Row has only 30 amp service throughout. We do see larger trailers there. During this current stay, we’ve walked around and chatted with many out-of-state campers (NH, VT, TX). The owners changed their website, and it is not as completely informative as it used to be, but they are on Facebook (while we are not). Happy Travels!

Well, we survived the last muddy weekend at Spruce Row’s Halloween weekend. So many activities for kids and adults. Pumpkin Carving, Trick-or-Treating (limited to one hour TG), Haunted Hayrides (one mild, two not so mild). Decorating and costume contests, and a haunted house in the Fun Hut. The campground was more crowded than we’ve ever seen it. We were really surprised to see so many huge TTs, 5th wheels, toy haulers, and motor homes. We walked through the park on Saturday and saw this, looming over us.
Lots of fun decorations.
It rained hard Friday night and Saturday morning, then cleared up for all the festivities. Sunday morning it rained again, making the pack-up a wet proposition. We are off to Turning Stone today, where Bruce will have a work week.Bruce and Nancy
