    Truck & 5th Wheel Recommendations

Hi, just registered for this forum & am new to RVing. After lots of looking we are thinking about the Solitude 377MBS and pulling it with a F350 diesel 6.5' bed single axle. The trailer is just under 41'.

Would appreciate feedback / comments on this pairing. Also since this will be our first RV, should I start smaller like a 35' 5th wheel? Really trying to avoid the trade in after a year.

We plan to do is travel the lower US, Canada & Alaska.

    Thanks!

Make the F350 a duelly. You will be over rating on payload in a SWB. Also at 41' your ride with a duelly will be much more stable.

In my opinion anything over 15,000 pounds should be towed by a dually !!!!

Yep, that's out of SRW payload capacity. Pin going to around 3500 and by the time you hitch and people in the truck you will way over payload. I had Solitude 310GK and the first weighing I was 300 pounds under but packed for 30 day trip I was 300 pounds over payload. Here is my weight slips for my first weighing coming home from the dealers. http://rving.info/our-rvs-we-have-ow...e-weights.html

Yes I would go smaller if you don't want to trade your truck in.

We are pulling the Reflection 367BHS which weighs in at 14K if fully loaded with the truck you are considering. It does fine but it is about as heavy as I would go without a truck upgrade. Acceleration and braking good but I am within 300lbs on maximum for RAWR according to recent CAT scale visit. With a 16K GVWR like the Solitude you are considering I would go with dual rear wheels. Lots of pin weight with these larger rigs. Good luck and welcome to the RV world!

All, thanks for the response! I don't want to trade in either the truck or coach.

We bought a 35' Reflection because we were new to RV'ing and weren't sure if wintering in an RV would be our cup of tea. We didn't want to spend a ton of money only to find out we didn't like it. It turns out we love spending part of our winter in our RV in Palm Springs and we wish we had bought a larger Solitude initially. We've got our Reflection set up the way we like so we'll stick with it. For now

And as others have said - dually for the truck!

There are advantages to the dually, and there advantages to the ARE, we pull our 369 with a SRW and do just fine. What's your comfort level? All tow vehicles have limitation, as long as you understand them and the consequences go for it in! In my OPINION I wouldn't hesitate a bit to pull your trailer with a ARE. Good luck!!!

What would worry me is pulling 5er with dry pin weight of over 2600 pounds and F250 Diesel with payload of around 2000 pounds and some hot lawyer figuring that out if I ever got into a accident that ended up in court. I know everyone carries around 250,000 of insurance but most insurance only cover 20,000 per dollars person and that could be used up in ER.
