Grand Design Quality Deminishing?
I recently upgraded to a Solitude 344GK from a Reflection 315RLTS and noticed some defects that is making me question GD's quality control. The biggest defect I found was the gap/separation from where the bottom of the front cap meets the under carriage (not sure what the actual name is for the fiberglass panel under the front cap.
I also noticed additional issues and I haven't even conducted my initial shakedown trip:
- Bedroom blind is too short to fully cover the window (I would have thought this would have been caught before releasing to the dealership)
- Caulking already peeling - haven't had the RV a month yet
- Storage door doesn't shut completely - rain got into the storage area (Again, should have been caught by GD and the dealership)
- The Tank tube is missing a few 'teeth' so I can't put the tube cap on the tube. (Looks like it was broken recently so not blaming GD)
- Front cap not secure to the lower fiberglass panel (PDI didn't show any issues - happened from drive home from the dealership)
- Outside trim pieces are bent when meeting an object - example The trim on the left side of the water heater cover (external) looks like it was just jammed into place...but GD solved by over caulking
I guess what bothers me is my Reflection 315RLT had 2 issues and it was minor. Trim came loose and bedroom closet door fell off during a trip.
Is GD quality going down and have others experienced these issues?
I tried to search for others who had the same front cap issue but couldn't find it. Wondering if that can be fixed as DYI or needs a professional fix at the dealership???
Frustrated, I am.Last edited by Drolaw; 02-12-2020 at 06:08 AM.

That doesn't look good on the front cap.
Document everything with pictures and send emails to the dealer and Grand Design. Follow up with phone calls. KENBackpacker and tent camper all my life, including BSA as a kid and adult.

I for one believe it has. The attention to detail and inspections prior to shipment have fallen off. Did these issues you are seeing now were not visible on your PDI?

Thanks...definitely have pictures and will share with GD and the dealer. I decided to do a shakedown this weekend at a park that is close to our home. I called the dealership yesterday and have an appointment to drop off the RV to fix the issues identified so far. The dealer is being accommodating but it's still frustrating. The front cap is my biggest concern..for now.
I did find cosmetic issues during the PDI but they were fixed during the PDI. My wife checked the blind but didn't pull it down far enough to notice the shortness. <sigh>Jim & Kate

I just noticed it about an hour ago and took pics and sent an email plan on calling in the morning.

Mine is separating closer to the edge which is bad because it looks like water has been getting in there from the AC drains & rain. I am not sure how long it has been this way but I’ve only had the unit since June.
Trying to get trailer camera wire...
