New Member, No Longer a Lurker
We finally broke down and bought a 2018 RES-R. We love it so far. The shakedown trip only revealed a faulty TV remote (1 of 2). I was pleasantly surprised the satellite wiring worked without modification. This was not the case with our two prior campers. The Samsung fridge was great! The only bad surprise was my truck.
My 2015 Ram 3500 SRW with Aisin felt overmatched. We are upgrading to a 2017 F-350 Laramie DRW tomorrow. Ouch, that one hurt! At least we will have restored a margin of safety -and payload- to our towing experience. Now if we could just retire a little early..... Time to book some trips!!!

I take it from your moniker you worked on C-130's or P-3's?

Propmec
Did you weight it? If you did can you share the numbers? That was the one I was wanted but only had SRW 1 ton and couldn't get the stubby pencil numbers to even get close.

I worked props and controls for many years. Mostly USAF and Navy C-130 prop, and component overhauls.

I did not need to weigh the trailer to determine I was over the payload. My truck's payload from its sticker is 3709. The advertised pin weight was around 2900. I added 350 for me and the DW, the hitch, fuel and normal stuff like firewood and surmised we were exceeding our limit. I also factored in the fact my actual pin weight is likely well over 3000. My seat of the pants impression also confirmed my fears.

It's great to have you as part of our community. I feel your hurt for having to get a new truck for I had the identical experience. Restoring that "margin of safety" has a price but it also provides peace of mind.
