Good choice. I am running them on my truck right now. Unless you are planning on running in deep snow or mud they are a great tire.

Are those Michelins type LT tires? We've got some Michelin LTX tires on a Ford Explorer but they are actually type P tires.

Alright - we are now proud owners of Imagine 2400BH! Picked up Friday in Lakewood, CO and drove home to Colorado Springs, CO.

It towed pretty well, but had to deal with Friday rush hour traffic. After getting out of the dealership, we went and weighed on CAT scale:

    Steer axle - 3340 lb
    Drive axle - 3440 lb
    Trailer axle - 5540 lb
    Total axle - 12320

I'm a little concerned about payload since it was just my wife and I (without our two pre-teen kids yet). If I have my numbers correct, this is what I ballpark:

    F150 GVWR 7000
    2400BH GVWR 7500 (7495)
    F150 GCVWR 18100

    7000+7500=14500

    14500 < 18100

    Brian,

Congrats on the new trailer. That's a nice looking rig, and beautiful scenery in the background.

The difference between "empty straight off the dealer's lot" and "loaded ready for camping" for our Imagine 2800BH was an extra 200 lbs. on the truck's rear axle and an extra 640 lbs. on the trailer axles.

You'll probably be getting close to your truck's payload capacity once you're all loaded up, but maybe you can try not to carry too much extra stuff in the truck (easier said than done with kids). With our previous smaller trailer we used to carry camp chairs, patio rug, grill, coolers, kids toys, etc. in the bed of the truck; now we carry that stuff in the trailer.

Another close tire size that a few manufacturers offer is LT285/55R20. Michelin LTX A/T2 (but not Defender LTX), Cooper Discoverer A/T3, and Nitto TerraGrappler G2 all list tires in that size. Tire diameters are listed at 32.4", which would effectively turn a 3.55 rear axle into about a 3.49 ratio and put the speedometer off by about 1mph when reading 60mph.

jw-2-family did you swap tires yet? I’m in the same planning stages but probably six months out. I’m targeting the Michelin’s LT265/60r20 or the BFG KO2s which are in the stock size (LT275/55r20) but are D rated (8 ply but may be a good compromise, not as stiff). One interesting thing is that, while the BFG are an 8ply tire, they are 53lbs each vs. 50lbs for the Michelin’s.

    Mike,
I have not swapped tires yet. I've got about 40K miles on the factory Bridgestone P275/55R20 tires. It seems that a lot of the LT tires available in 275/55R20 size have aggressive off-road tread patterns, which we don't necessarily need for the type of driving we do. So I haven't decided yet what to change to when the time comes for new tires.

My father in law has KO2s on his F-250 and really likes them. I'll be replacing my tires with them in the coming months. They are more aggressive than the LTX you mentioned, but don't buzz. For my driving (hunting, gravel roads) they suit my needs better.

I have 18" rims on my truck, but if I wasn't going with the BFGs I would look at Yokohama Geolanda H/T G056. I currently have the P rated ones on my F-150 and have been very happy with the wet traction, wear, and ride quality. They just leave a little to be desired on gravel roads which I'm on often during the fall and winter while hunting.
