I am considering adding a portable solar panel. I am primarily planning to use it to keep the batteries charged while the trailer is stored, and not in use. I understand the 10 amp limit in the plug. I am looking for recommendations (brand, manufacturer etc) for a portable solar set up that meets the 10 amp limit. I havent done much boondocking, so I think the 10 amp limit will be fine. If I change my habits, I will look into a larger system in the future. Thank you.

    Hi @Jerry & Barbara,
I have a 100W panel that puts out about 5.5A. More than enough to keep 2 group 27 batteries charged. I'm thinking you could get away with a 50W panel. You need to get a decent controller so you don't over charge your batteries. The whole setup including controller, panel, and wires should run between $150-$200 tops.

    HTH,
    Kevin

    Almost anything will do.

I have an ancient 5w panel keeping a failing 100AH lead acid battery almost happy. It's been a dark an cold winter here, so a better battery would be better. It also supplies 2 rodent deterant devices.

10A port is good for 120w of 12v panels. Do remember to disconnect your safety sensors and background loads when storing!

I just had a Go Power 195w to solar panel added to our 2020 303RLS. Talking to Go Power they said the prep from Grand Design would support 3 of their 195w panels. We only have a single panel to keep the batteries charged. At this point I don't think we are going to add any more, but we have the option.

That depends on the amp output of the panel you choose. Small panels such as 10-20 watts would not overcharge the batteries so do not require a controller, but all you would be getting is a trickle charge. If on the other hand you are looking for higher output, you will then definitely need a charge controller.

I have this connector also. It is plug and play with my 100w Renogy Solar Suitcase. It works great.
