    Furrion Solar prep 10am

the GD unit im contemplating has "solar prep", has the Furrion Solar prep port on the front goose neck area.

does anyone have any specifics as to what comprises the solar prep ? is there a controller somewhere in there?
is there a spec on the panels one should/can buy that plugs right into that port?
i see furrion has a website with some neat stuff.
id imagine you just get panels and plug it in.

says 10a 10amp on the port so id imagine thats the limit of the solar panels you can buy?
anyone had more info on all that?

It's just a fused connection to the battery(ies). No controller AFAIK.

Correct, no controller. You can buy the plug to fit the socket mounted on your rig. You can also buy panels with that plug or an adapter. Should be 10 amp but check the fuse.

In other words, this is the absolute, bare minimum that you could do and legally claim "prepped for solar". It would be much, much more meaningful to run some 4AWG wires to the roof, from the battery compartment. That's solar prep.

Question.....when you buy the plug for the furrion socket so that your panel can be directly connected to the camper, do you still have to purchase a controller?

Yes, there is no controller between the socket and the battery. You will need one between the panel and the plug.

You're welcome. And FYI, most (if not all) portable panels have controllers with them. I have a Zamp portable 120, it works well for me.

i have the plug supplied with my 303. at the time, Furion would not sell me just a plug so i could add it to my panel. So, heck with that, i purchased a cigarette lighter extension cord, cut it at the female end, added it to my panel, then replaced the little plug inside the flip cover with a mounted female cigarette light plug like we had back int eh day on our older trailers. now i have about 25 feet of solar panel cord and can move it around anywhere i want when i use it. i have two 12 volt group 30 agm batteries so i will never need a charge controller as enough draw is always on for the lp detector, fridge and control panel. Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !

In-line 2 pin male connectors that fit the Furion plug on the camper are available from Amazon.
    Here's several:
I've ordered this one but have not done a test fit yet - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

More expensive but these guys advertise that they fit the solar connector on Grand Design: https://www.amazon.com/Industrial-Co...267KBQXTTRDNTY
