    VERY INTERESTING BS.

One VERY big Grand Design dealer is LazyDays. They have 5 locations around the US. Looking at their inventory they currently have 181 Grand Designs in inventory between their 5 locations.

The one in Tampa has 104 sales reps, over 250 service bays. They sold me my Andersen Ultimate Hitch at the same time as they sold me the Reflection 337. They routinely recommend and install the Andersen all the time. The only hitch display they have is the Andersen.

I have the same truck, but a 2011. I went with the B&W Patriot slider. I don't mind the rails in my bed. two years and I haven't needed to remove it to haul anything. Also I haven't had the need to slide it rearward yet. I have made some pretty tight turns. I think the Chevy box is just that little longer than some of the others.

I have a 2017 Ram 3500 mega cab (6' 4" bed) with Ramboxes and went with the Andersen Ultimate Hitch. Lots of clearance all around and pulled great on my 2 hour drive home from the dealership.

In the previous post I forgot to mention that I had to raise the ball to the highest position and flip the adapter around like Jerry to get the clearance I felt I needed to my bed rails. I went with the rail mount version because I felt it offered me the greatest flexibility for the price.Attachment 9969Attachment 9970
Look like you have a lot of clearance to the truck bed rails. Is the 5th level when hooked up? Or is it nose high?

Ray, I don't really have any pictures of the truck and camper hooked up where I'm on level ground. When I picked up the camper late last year, my first hookup was with the ball in the lowest position. I grabbed a picture of it in that position. The unit seems reasonably level. I of course never measured it. I also have air suspension in the rear of my truck but I'm not sure if I had it active when the picture was taken.

I wasn't super comfortable with bed rail clearances with the ball in the lowest position so I raised it to the highest position and reversed the coupler (ball behind kingpin). I've kept it that way ever since. Here's a picture of them connected but not on level ground. The camper looks a bit nose high.

Here are a few more recent pictures showing clearances.

I plan to get more pictures when the camping season is more in full swing here.

Update to an old thread. Finally got out for the first time this year. Hooked up for a weekend trip. Attached is a picture of my truck and camper on level ground. My truck has factory rear air suspension and the alternate ride height was active when the picture was taken. Camper is a little nose high. Didn't take time to measure but I'm comfortable towing at this height. The ball of my AUH is in the highest position. Hitch performed well in all the uneven turns and backing maneuvers I made. Been solid so far.

I have the B&W companion manual slider. towing with a 6'5" bed. I have yet to need the slider and have been in some moderately tight situations. It is a little heavy to remove but is nice to have a clean bed when you need to use the truck for something else.

Matt - You should try your slider. Makes backing the 5th wheel much more responsive with the pin behind the truck axle rather than directly over it in the tow position. I have a manual slider and use it every time.

All of the suggestions you have here make great sense but if you don't need the bed space or payload, the Superglide is pretty nice. No worries about contact and once you have used it a time or two and get it dialed in...pulls as good as anything else...
