    Front Basement Door latch replacement

While on a recent trip I smacked my head on the door latch rod for the front basement door. (The rod hangs from the bottom of the overhang, behind the pin box. The rod snapped off. I reached out to GDRV Customer Support to see if I could purchase a couple of replacements. They graciously sent me two for no charge. When I saw the base plates for the rod end and the receptacle end were the same, I decided to swap them. The rod piece is now hanging from the door rather than the overhang (see attached photo). In doing so, the rod will no longer get in the way when walking under the overhang. Has anyone else tried this? Is there a downside to doing this that I can't see?

The downside is that you did not do it sooner! I did the same thing, as did several others that I read here. Seems logical. I put some Velcro on it to keep it from flapping around. Just make sure that when you reach up to latch it, that it catches.

This a timely post for this ol' boy. The door latch rod jumped out in front me and snapped off on our last trip. Not thinking about contacting GD, I ordered a latch set and butyl tape from Amazon, but have not installed it yet. I contemplating reversing the latches, and this post confirms that others have already done that with no issues.
