Solution for the "DEATH DOOR"

Many of our rigs have an access door that opens up into the main passage between the living room and the bedroom. If the door is left open and you walk into it, it can be quite painful and cause injury. Dave Matheny posted his solution on the Facebook page. I thought it was brilliant, and I got permission from him to share it here.

Note how he replaced the hinges with drawer slides. This will keep the door out of the pedestrian walkway.

Thanks Jim for posting this. I am most definitely guilty of leaving that door open when setting up. Questions, how is he securing it in the closed position when they are traveling, and will it only open the one way.
I know what one of my next projects is going to be!!!

What is a great idea!!, wayyy back when I worked selling cabinet hardware there was an accuride soft close with push to open that are perfect for RV applications

Good idea, but if you have to leave clearance for the drawer-slide won't that leave a 1/2" gap between the door and the cabinet for the slide to travel? John

Very nice. Our Solitude has the same door at head height right at the top of the stairs. Going to have to look into this one, maybe even for the coat closet. Thanks for the idea.

You forgot to tell us the drawer slide make and model he used. .:-)
Looks like there is a soft close mechanism in it.
