Is a slider hitch necessary on the standard bed f250 pickup with a GD317RST?

There are many discussions on this topic that you can find by entering key words into the search tool in the upper right corner. To summarize, it would seem that you do not need a slider if you are sure that you will never back beyond an angle of about 75 degrees. Beyond that, particularly if the ground is not level, you are at risk of contact. Some are comfortable with this limitation . . . others choose to go with a slider. Personal choice.

I can only speak for the dimensions of my 337, but I could easily go past 90 degrees and the side of the fiver would hit the corner of the cab several feet back. I had the truck turned enough that the corner of the fiver and the corner of the cab were as close as they could get - 75? 85? degrees? - and there was more than a foot of clearance. This is a 2016 F250 CCSB with AUH. If the 317 cap is shaped similiarly, I wouldn't worry about clearance.

    Happy Turkey Day.

The dangerous part would be on uneven ground. When the TV and trailer are going in opposite directions, one up one down. It doesn't happen often but if it does it could get you.

I just traded my F250 short bed for a F350 and used a slider hitch. It was nice not to worry about making tight turns while making fuel stops, U-Turns, or squeezing into a tight camping spot. My hitch is now for sale. Pullrite 24k slider and is posted on this site.
