    Gulf coast campgrounds

Any suggestions for beachfront campgrounds in the panhandle/alabama/gulfport area? Looking for a getaway for a few days from the Huntsville Alabama area. Used to go to Gamble Rogers near St Augustine when we lived closer but its too far and too popular now!
    TIA!

Ft Pickens National Seashore. Loop A is as close to the beach as you can get. White sand and blue water. JMHO

If you are wanting beachfront, Fort Pickens Loop A is as good as it gets for the buck. Gulf State park in Gulf Shores, AL is also nice, but not beachfront and moderately priced. If money is no object, check out some of the beach parks in the Destin area and east. If you are over in Mississippi, Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, MS is very nice. Not on the beach, but very close. Davis Bayou in Ocean Springs, MS is also very nice on the bayou but a short drive from the beach.

One of our favorite parks in the panhandle is Santa Rosa RV Resort. On the bay and quite a few sites back up to the water. Last time we were there(three weeks ago), one of the campers had crab traps out on the pier and caught some monster blue claws. Navarre Beach is a 5 minute drive across the bridge. Snowbirds are in now so they may be booked up. We also really like Gulf State in Golf Shores and Buccaneer in MS.

This is where my Mom stays when she visits. I live 5 minutes from this campground. The sites that back up to the sound are very nice. Not sure I'd want the sites that back up to Hwy 98. Be sure to look at the campground from a "God's eye" view in Google Earth--you'll see what I mean. If you do head this way, make time for the Naval Museum in Pensacola (it's amazing and free) and if you're a fan of seafood "Scooters" is just a minute away. The pier off Navarre Beach (nominal fee to walk it) should not be missed, either.
