Hi, when we first got our Reflection and went on our first trip the spare tire also was hanging down almost to ground. Surprised I never tore it off. I went under and checked it and found it was installed wrong side up. I flipped tire over and it has never fallen down again. I am thinking there was to much cable going into pulley and would not let it tighten enough, when tire was flipped it held more cable out and worked great after that.

I was upset when I discovered the mangled cable, broken sheave and twisted gears on our spare tire winch the first time I needed the spare. Now I realize it's just a feature to keep the spare in place while towing. Silly me.

[QUOTE=khughes02;142051]The other morning I stumbled on a thread on Facebook about a spare tire on a Reflection dropping on it's own. I checked mine as i broke camp and it was secure.
We arrived home in the dark. The next morning, looking out the kitchen window, Tobi asked if the trailer's spare tire always hung that low. Well, it shouldn't.
The first photo from the Fb post is a robust fix that prevents the spare from self unwinding. I didn't want to have to go into the underbelly to secure the eye-bolt so I used a latch keep instead. Now on my pre-travel checklist.
I can just imagine what mayhem would follow should the leading edge of a dropped spare happen to catch the pavement.

Thanks for the post, great idea. The other day found my spare tire loose. It took 3 to 4 cranks to tighten it back up. May put that clip on it, another project.

    Hey Grumpy,
Not sure if you were asking me about my yak rack or someone about something else. I have an Equalizer hitch that has vertical piece with holes pre-drilled for adjusting height. There was enough to use as a post. Added a sleeve and converted a bed extender to go vertical as opposed to horizontal.
Haven't been on this site in a while, hope this helps.
