    Wifi signal booster

    Is anyone using the "WifiRanger"?

Want to be able to stream Netflix while boondocking.

I'm using the surecall booster. Have used it once in the real world and it worked great. Still need to work out details like how to set it up quickly and route all the antenna wires. You do need signal to start with it won't find signal that doesn't exist and using an app to find the nearby cell towers and direction to the towers also helps.

Search wifiranger in the upper right corner, it was mentioned more than a couple of times over the years. Now you might get some real world feedback from those and other users. I'm also interested in what they're saying.

Where do you expect to get a wi-fi signal to amplify when you're boondocking?

You can't assume there is or is not a signal. We have had a signal where none is expected, and places where one is barely present, such as where we are living. And a few hundred feet way there is no signal at all.

Oops, I was thinking cell, not wifi.

I agree with Second Chance that boondocking will make it a challenge to find nearby wifi, but cellular can be found almost everywhere.

WiFi Ranger appears to be for wifi networks and not cellular. It will connect to a mobile hotspot, but does not apear to help amplify that signal.

To make my setup work I am using a 25' collapsible flag pole that is mounted to my ladder. The Yagi style directional antenna is mounted to the top of the flagpole. I use a mobile app that shows nearby cell towers. I point the Yagi that direction and connect the other end of the coax to my SureCall booster. The booster then connects to it's own smaller antenna (mini whip style) and it boosts the signal for all devices nearby. Using this setup I have gone from signal that was barely useful for data or voice to a very useful signal that could be used by multiple people near my camper. You have to be careful about creating feedback loops between the antennas as this shuts down the booster.

OP - are you familiar with these folks:

    http://www.technomadia.com/

They have been researching and writing about mobile technology for a long time. They are considered the "go-to" experts in the field by a large number of full-timers. There is a lot of good info on their site.

TrueWeb is correct. Some misinfo here. There are very few "open" wifi signals unless you are in a metro area. Some campgrounds have them but are usually so overloaded you get bumped off allot.
The OP should be looking for a cellular booster then using his phone or a wifi hotspot to get his connection and then broadcast wifi at his site. Then the smart TV will have a signal to hook up to to allow streaming. Some phones have a connection for an external antenna. Most hotspots do also. So getting one of those so you can pick up a nearby tower is what is needed. I have used the 4G integrated wifi in my GM truck with some success but it still will not pull in a weak signal. it does work better that my phone at locking in a signal.
