Need To Hear From Experienced Towers with Short Beds.

If you have a short bed truck.....

    1. Do you have a slider hitch?

1a. If yes... auto or manual?

    2. If you don't have a slider do you wish you did?

    Thank you.

I have been towing with short bed Fords since 2001. I have always had a manual slider hitch. A few times I did not use the slide feature out of laziness, one time I paid for the infraction when my fifth wheel pinched the cab corner of my 2011 F-350 CC. Have not made that mistake since.

    I towed with a Ram 1500 5’7” bed, and now a 3500 Ram 6 ‘4” bed. Both 5ers with my Reese Sidewinder.
With yearly maintenance, It is a very stable alternative to any slider hitch.
Paid 1200.00 new , 4 years towing, approximately 30,000 miles
    Works for me

    Auto

The biggest deciding factor for the auto slider was not if it was when I needed it to slide. I figured it would be in some situation where Traffic at a gas station or tight corner with traffic behind me in a busy campground and I would not take the time to get out and manually slide it back. I have read too many post where they had a manual slider and they did not get out and slide it back. That one time it happens just paid for the upgraded cost in the hitch.

I also looked into AUH but not sure if I would have enough room. I may in the future look at one again. I got the industry standard rails so a AUH or another hitch would be able to install.

So far I love my Pullrite Autoslider hitch however this is my 1st 5er and hitch.

    1- Nope
    2- Nope

I rarely get myself into a backing situation that makes me nervous but if I start getting to that point, I just pull forward and start backing again. Works for me.

Yes, auto . Demco hijacker autoslider. Love it. I never think twice about backing up even in the tightest of situations.

Yes, manual. If you are going to do any amount of traveling you will need a slider hitch.

We pulled our first 12,000 miles (full-timing) with a 6.5' bed GMC using an Andersen Ultimate rail-mount hitch. Never had any problems.

2017 F350 short bed pulling a 2017 337RLS with an Andersen Ultimate Hitch and the cab clearance is not even close and the ride is perfect, no bucking/chucking.

One thing to keep in mind that you may need it driving forward and turning not just for backing up.
