Dexter Axle Maintenance Schedule
A copy of the 600# - 8,000# Dexter Axle manual has been placed in the Reference Library section of the forum. Note: The Reference Library is only available to site sponsors and trial members.
Here is a synopsis of the maintenance schedule for Dexter Axles based upon information in the manual:
BRAKES
Once a year (more frequent if used "excessively") (Page 14)
Clean, inspect and lubricate brake components.
Bearings
Every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. (Page 52)
Clean and lubricate bearingsSuspension Components
Every 3,000 miles (Page 67)
Lubricate Wet Bolts
Every 6,000 miles (Page 67)
Disassemble and inspect the suspension system including bushings, shackles, eye bolts, etc. Replace if worn.
Also check out the "Prolonged Storage" requirements on page 81. Even if just storing over the Winter, the trailer should be jacked up by the frame to take pressure off the tires.
If you follow the manufacturers inspection criteria, and you put 12,000 miles per year on your rig, you'd be disassembling and inspecting your suspension two times per year! Wow!
