Well, we're back from our trip and, except for one other incident of the TV turning off, it's worked fine. My husband suspects it may have to do with the wonky electric supply in the RV park we were in at the time. It peaked and dropped out on a fairly regular basis, and our surge protector shut down all power to our rig twice because of it. He thinks that there were surges (just not large enough to shut down all power) that the TV couldn't handle and it would shut down.

Once we moved on to another location, we had absolutely no issue with the TV turning off.

Interesting that only the TV showed strange behavior. At least your surge protector prevented any damage from occurring and everything is back to normal.

    Thanks for your help.
The little red "pilot light" is rather meaningless in terms of power to the circuits. There is a switching diode (I'm sure they don't use mechanical relays any more) in the TCL that is prone to failure. Our didn't turn off randomly but got to where I'd have to unplug the power, wait a second, plug it back in, and turn the TV on again to get it to finish booting up - sometimes three to five times. All the while the little red light was behavisng exactly as it should. The remedy: a new Samsung 40" TV this past weekend.

Try this to avoid auto shutdown problems, go to Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset, and then highlight Factory reset everything. Read the information on the screen to make sure you understand what this reset operation does. To proceed with the full factory reset, enter the code listed on the screen and select ok.

Well, the latest - since Jan the TV has been working great. Until today. Started turning off again. The power supply at the park we are in is fine, no surges and weird electrical issues. The last time, we thought it smelled hot, so we put a fan on the back of the TV, and when we turned it back on, the sound is fried. Everything has a fuzzy sound to it.

Guess a new TV is in the future. Gotta get the warranty stuff out and see what (if anything) can be covered.
