    TCL television trouble

Our TCL TV has developed a problem. It's randomly turning off.

We've checked the sleep timer, and reset to factory defaults. Checked the plug to confirm it's firmly in the outlet.

It's still doing it. Most recently about 20 minutes after turning back on. But sometimes it goes an hour and half before turning off.

    Any suggestions?

I suggest you replace it with a decent quality TV. We swapped out our main TCL TV for a Samsung, night and day difference. We will change the others as they die, whenever that occurs. TCL is a lower quality TV, your problems could be due to that alone; there is a reason they don't cost much to purchase.

On a side note, is there a heat source near your TV? Maybe it's overheating?

The TV is in the same cabinet as the electric fireplace. The fireplace is on this morning, but it wasn't on yesterday (when this all started happening).

As an addendum, it's now just turned off AGAIN! It lasted 25 minutes this time. And it won't turn back on now.

I'll mention it to my husband about the low quality TV and replacement.

I'm guessing it's not overheating if it started prior to using the fireplace.

Have you verified the cord is securely plugged in to the back of the TV and the outlet?

Have you tried plugging something else in the outlet, like a lamp, with the TV and see if the other device also turns off? This would eliminate or confirm there is a problem with the power source to the TV.

Yes, first thing we checked was whether the plug was all the way in. Good idea to try plugging something else in there. Will give that a try. Just tried turning on TV again - it's on now.

Sadly, we're out in the middle of nowhere, and today there are 2 football games on. Hopefully we can nurse it along so my husband can enjoy his games.

We do have the extended warranty on it. Hope we can get them to cover the cost of a new TV.

I'd say swap the TV with another if you have more than one with you. I tried having GD replace mine when it started acting weird; they wouldn't do anything for me unless I went through the dealer. They aren't like that with everything, but they said that's all they would do for a TV, and it would have been a direct replacement; I didn't want another TCL as a replacement so I paid out of pocket.

No, no other TV. The power supply looks to be fine, because when the TV goes off, the red power button (off) is lit.

I'm not sure who the extended warranty is through, not GD though, hopefully they're better to work with.

    Thanks for your help.

I certainly will. We'll have to wait til we get back from our trip (in about a week) before we can access the warranty info. But I'll let you know.

Chiming in: My 40 inch TCL is also shutting off randomly, worked better for a while with a fan blowing on it but now even that doesn't stop the shut-downs. Went to find a new TV but having trouble with mounting in our 2017 Momentum 328M. the VESA pattern of the TCL is different than other 40 inchers so will need to hang a new mounting bracket and not sure whats behind the wall for backing. Got frustrated and just brought the outside tv in for now.
