We are new to the rally scene (as with everything else). We understand campsite registration is inherently part of registering for the rally. Is camping available on site before and after so we can arrive early or stay late by reserving a site for those "shoulder" dates with a representative of the Fairgrounds? Doing so might give us more flexibility in finding campsites for the trip.
    Thanks!

Last year was our first rally at the Elkhart Fairgrounds and we arrived a few days early for it. We had to contact the Fairgrounds directly and pay the normal price but, luckily, the spot we had reserved for the rally was available and the Fairground office put us in it. It was actually kinda fun because we were the only ones in that section at the time so I took before and after pictures...First with us as the only ones there and then a couple days later with about 35 others. Plan on having a good time...We sure did...John

We purchased our first GD in September. I have taken that week off work but I haven't a clue what will happen at the rally. We have never attended a rally before. What should we expect? When will we know the cost for the rv spots for the week? As for a driving class, count me out. 22 years pulling a 53' trailer so i'll pass on any extra driving...haha Thanks everyone in advance

    Hi Phil,

Just keep watching the forum and register for the rally as soon as you can. I can't say how it will be done this year but last year all of the sites were posted along with the descriptions of what they offered (ie: 30/50 Amp, water, sewer and length of site). It's first come/first served on the sites. Last years registration fees included a LOT of food. A schedule of events will be posted sometime soon, I hope, and that will include several events to sign-up for. Be prepared to have a good time. John

Last year we showed up five days before the rally began because we had other business to take care of. It's an RV park at a Fairgrounds and, as long as they have available space, I'm sure you can arrive whenever you like. Just be sure to call them first. As far as reserving the sites I'd like to be clear on that....Last year you picked your site, registered on line and paid your rally fees at that time. Rumor has it that the registration will be open sometime in April and that will be when all of the rally info will be available and registration begins. It's first come/first served when you register but simply arriving early for the rally will not guarantee you a choice of sites. John...

I wouldn't be surprised if site registration changes a little this year. There was a small cluster of sites that were clearly way to small for most GD rigs and some last second shuffling around had to be done. Don't know if those will be omitted or 2 sites will =1?

We are still in the planning stages of how to make parking go a little smoother this year. It is much more complex than just picking a site during the registration process and parking in that site. GDRV service dept spends a couple of months lining out parts and service for our individual coaches to handle our request in a timely fashion. And as Marcy said not all RV's fit in the sites available so we have to address that as well. We are expecting 350-400 rigs this year so temporary sites will be erected to provide utilities for those coaches. It will all work out but the final details have yet to made.
