You will probably want to check with PENNDOT to see what hoops you'll have to jump through to get the proper title. I assume you will need to take pictures of your repairs as you make them. And you should keep all receipts of parts and supplies used. After repairs are completed, you will probably need to get the trailer insured and take the trailer to a PENNDOT inspection station where they will give a release so the new title can be issued.

This is all required to minimize the existence of chop shops.

In my state, individuals cannot rebuild wrecked vehicles. Body shops can only rebuild total wrecks if they have a special rebuilder license which very few have.

Other states require complete documentation, pictures and serial numbers in receipts of any used parts used to rebuild vehicles. They make it hard to rebuild vehicles and EVe legally.

What is so bad is that insurance companies are often too quick to total a RV (or cars/trucks) when they are often easily fixed. I have seen cars totaled out for just a bumper cover.

    Debbie Downer.....

To the OP, I'm sure your know what you are doing and we most of us look forward to your successful repair

Great post and I'll be watching!
OTOH, scares the mess out of me seeing how cheaply these things are built and then what they sell for. I'm in the wrong business I know that!

No, as I said, I'm only going to do the front half to get it on the road. The rubber roof was cheap enough to buy, but I don't have the space to chance something getting wet again or messing with 2 tarps in a windy area. I'm planning building a garage this summer so I'll be able to change it over to tan if the mood strikes. But for now, I'm just going to do a seam right at the 18 foot mark from the cap.

So you have my curiosity up as I have often wondered about doing something similar. If I am not overstepping bounds how much does a "salvaged" unit go for at auction?

    Thanks Kevin,
and if I may ask, would you be interested in looking at another 5th wheel for sale near you for my Dad?

Well, let me ask you this first, what percentage of retail would you be willing to part with for a damaged yet fixable coach. Keep in mind, I was pursuing the same year (2015) and model (317RST) at 3 different dealers in the Eastern US for $29K, $33K and $36K asking price in the last month. I'm curious as to what others feel it's worth.

So I had a few hours after work today, so I went ahead and cleaned up my work space and tools, and plotted my next move. I decided after looking at the hardboard I purchased for the ceiling that it may need a little more support (can't say for sure, just thinking). I decided to add blocking (if you can call a 2x2 blocking, Ha!) in between the trusses at 1/3 the width of the coach. I used more construction adhesive and brad nailed into place.

Once that was done I was going to stop, but then I looked at the weather and they are calling for snow and pretty cold temps for a few days, so I kept going knowing the next few days are a bust. I zip tied up some wires and tucked the rest into the bays and began to put up the insulation. I started with the high up parts:

And then worked my way into the bedroom. It took a little longer to tuck the insulation above the duct work and to split it and tuck the wiring inside, but I wanted it to look clean and minimize the possibility of hitting a wire with a brad.

I'll add a tip on the next slide.

OK, so for anyone interested, you can repair most little accidents in the paneling and trim work with free material they build into each coach. For example, lets say you have a tree fall on your coach and it gouges the wall. Well, you could order parts and all of that but here is a tip... There is plenty of paneling you can cut and patch in a few places.

    1. The divider between the basement and wiring/plumbing bay is a huge carpeted piece of interior paneling!

    2. Drawer bottoms in the dressers are a great place to steal a patch from (just replace with some other paneling)

    3. This coach has a few different colors but I noticed the pantry shelves are double sided and hollow cored. Just pop off the brads from the bottom shelf and replace with something else (if you think anyone will ever notice the underside of the bottom shelf is missing!)

Now to trim it so it looks good is a bit tricky, but cutting with a multi-tool along sharp pencil lines will usually get you pretty close. Then, you will have to get some factory help here by ordering some OEM color seam tape to make it invisible. Usually this can be ordered for a few cents or a few bucks a foot, depending on width (same stuff they join the wall sections with).

    Enough for today.
