    Campgrounds along coast of Maine???

    Hi All:
Looking at spending a week or 2 on a Maine trip this summer and want to book some campsites sooner rather then later . At the moment thinking of heading up the coast, Rt 1, and spending a couple days in different spots and a little longer (maybe 4 days or so) somewhere around Acadia to do some hiking. We often dry camp and/or use state campgrounds so we are not necessarily looking for "camping resorts" (read parking lots with full hookups where RV's are stacked like cord wood) so to speak. One spot I found was Camden Hills state park. Opinions? Anyone know a decent place down near Kennebunkport? How about around Bar Harbor/Acadia? I believe the campgrounds inside Acadia are too small for our 303rls. I saw it listed somewhere that the max length was 35' combined with tow vehicle. Is this correct?

Any input on camping locations or sites to visit would be appreciated.

We love Smuggler's Den in Southwest Harbor.

It is a full hook up campground, but not stacked in like sardines.

You can also hike right out of the campground.

We've stayed at Shore Hills Campground in Booth Bay and Bar Harbor Campground on the island (it's about 2.5 miles from the main entrance and visitor center for Acadia National Park). We really liked both.

We're going to do some of the same vacation this summer; from our home in SE Michigan to the Poconos, into Conn, up to Mass, and up to Bar Harbor before turning around and heading to home. We'll be on the road late June thru mid-July. We'll say Hi if we see you on the road.

We are thinking the last two weeks of July. Upstate NY to NH/Mass for a day or two then up the Maine coast for a week+ then stop in Vermont for a day or two on the way back home...

We have stayed in the Acadia National Park campgrounds with a 30 foot TT towed behind an F-150 and did not encounter a problem. In fact, there were many trailers there that were longer than ours and they had their tow vehicles on the same site. Worst case, if you had to, you could park the trailer, and there are spaces to park your tow vehicle separately, if you needed to.

Mind if I ask which campground? I think there are three within the park.
