We were given a free membership to GS when we bought the TT, so I figure I'll sign up or PA and see which one works best for us. Airrace I sent you a PM.

    Hwy 199

I have reservations at an RV park in Lynnwood, WA for the Month of March, 1st grandchild due around March 5th. This is just a trip to get there with stops to rest and visit family and friends along the way. Plan to take it a little slower and a different route on the way back.

Do not depend upon your GPS or any on line map service while in Oregon. There are thousands of logging roads that show up as usable roads. Every year people follow their GPS or on line map service to a dead end in the mountains and become stranded. There have been deaths from being stranded in the snow. If the road doesn't show on a road atlas, it probably is not a year round road.

Hwy 199 is curvy and narrow through the Smith River Canyon, then it widens out and is a smooth, wide road. 18 wheelers use it without problems, but don't cross the center line on the curves or you may kiss an oncoming rig. Once you are out of the Smith River Canyon, it is very good road.

When you reach Grants Pass, stay on 199 to the S. Grants Pass I-5 Interchange. Due to traffic and stop lights, it is about 20 minutes quicker than going through Grants Pass to the N. Grants Pass I-5 Interchange.

In Canyonville, there is an Excellent campground at 7 Feathers Casino, or a Full service County Camp Ground on the other side of I-5 from the Casino Campground.

In Oregon, you can spend the night in your RV in Rest Stops, unless it is posted no overnight camping.

One thing to be aware of, in California the speed limit for towing a trailer is 55 mph. Or really, just towing anything. Had a buddy in a motor home towing a car and another buddy pulling a tt (two different times) that both got speeding tickets. Hwy 99 has became pretty rough the last time I traveled it. I think I would stay on I-5. The I-5 drive in Northern California is pretty scenic. 101 down the coast is a great drive if you are not in a hurry. The road wonders in and out from the coast but a good road overall.

Despite all my planning, reality took over. I had planned to leave on Feb. 25th and take a relatively slow, leisurely trip to Seattle. Then at 2330 on the 24th we received a call from out son-in-law; Shelly’s water had broken and they were heading to the hospital. So much for planning J. Deb stayed up most of the night packing, she hadn’t planned on traveling with me. I managed to sleep until the alarm at 0400. We loaded the stuff Deb had thrown together and we were on the road by 0530. This was not going to be a leisurely trip.
Day 1 we made it to Sun Valley, AZ at about 2030, the temp was 19, not the best conditions to set up. It took the camper a while to warm up but fortunately we had an electric blanket. With the alarm set for 0400 we got some rest. We were up the next morning, had breakfast, broke camp and on the road by 0515, 17 degrees.
Day 2 we made it to Lodi, CA. Another long day, but better conditions for camping and a nicer RV park (Flag City RV Park).
Day 3, no alarm and we took the time to do some general RV maintenance. We were on the road by 0815. We stopped in Redding to meet up with my cousin for lunch. That killed 3 hours, but well worth the time. As we got into Oregon we debated whether to stop or keep going, and decide to just push through. We stopped outside of Salem for a much needed nap. Because the rest area was crowded and we were only there for a few hours, we decided not to open the slide, even though the outside temp was around 30deg. On a 2600RB the thermostat is in the and not accessible unless the slider is move out at least a foot our two. It needs to be located in the living area. I had packed a cold weather sleeping bag and I was warm enough to sleep for a couple of hours, Deb had just a blanket and didn’t get much rest.
Day 4, we were back on the road by 0200ish. We arrived in Lynnwood around 5am so we pulled into a Home Depot parking lot to wait for the Maple Grove RV Resort to open at 8. 2500 miles in 96 hours. I ‘m planning a leisurely trip home, I wonder how that will work out?
