What's your experience with truck tires?

Time for new rubber on my 2014 F-350, Dually. I'm looking at the Michelin Defender LTX M/S 245/75R17 LT.....what is your experience with this tire?

Anybody pulling a heavy 5th wheel have good or great experience with any other tires? How many miles and what kind of mileage did you get?

My brother-in-law says the Defender is the only tire he can get to last on his truck - towing or not - and good performance and handling, too. I think he's getting about 60k per set. The truck tows his fifth wheel and gets used as a farm truck. We're due for new rubber when we get out to New Mexico in a few weeks and the Defenders will be what go on the truck.

I have put nothing but Michelin on my vehicles for many years and have never been disappointed. On my Ram 2500 I was getting over 75,000 on a set. That includes the set that came on the truck new. I don't think the Good Year's on my new truck will make it much past 40,000. My brother switched to Michelins on his truck and he was impressed with how much quieter they were.

I have the Michelin Defender 295/70R18s on a SRW. I haven't had them long enough to comment on how well they will wear (only about 1200 miles) but I really like how they drive and handle with and without the trailer. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Defenders.

I just put the defenders on my truck. I haven't towed with them yet. The are very quiet and have good traction in the snow.

I got 95k out of a set of Goodyear duratracs on my Ram 2500 diesel. Probably 15k towing miles (12-15k lbs) and the rest empty. Awesome snow traction as well.

The Michelins are my favorite truck tire. But there are other great tires too. I remain a fan of those built in North America, especially the Bridgestone Stacks series.

The only Chinese tire I would suggest is a Sailun. They are a great tire for $50 or more less than Michelins. And so have never heard a single complaint.

Been running Michelins on my cars and trucks probably for close to 30 years now. Have never had a bad experience from them. Smooth , wear well and good traction. Guess that's why i keep going back to them. Haven't seen a good reason to change.

Thank you everybody for your feedback. Only goes to support the independent research that I've done on the net. The Michelin Defender LTX M&S has came out on the top of my short list.

    Thanks again, everybody!
