    No hot water

We just finished our first trip, a month on the California coast, Morro Dunes. Great park! About 10 days before our return we lost hot water. Everything worked as it should and then.., it didn’t. We were on full hookups at the same location the entire time.

We couldn’t get hot water in either gas or electric. Gas stove and furnace both worked, plenty of propane. We were on shore power but the electric mode wouldn’t work either. Breaker was on, water would come out of the “hot” faucet ok, it just isn’t heated.. we did find that the small two amp fuse at the water heater was blown. Replaced the fuse in gas mode and it blew again. Same for electric mode.

Another weekend trip is planned this weekend, and since it is just the weekend we will do without hot water. Blue Dog RV has been contacted and it is covered, just not looking forward to not having the trailer for weeks.

Let me know if maybe I missed something or if there is something else to check that would save me a trip to the dealer.

    Many thanks,

If you let water out of the pressure relief is it hot? Is it possible you accidently opened the water heater by-pass valve?

The blown fuses on both gas and electric points to a control circuit or circuit board problem. Other than a careful look at all the connections to the circuit board, I don't think there is much more that you can do yourself. A dealer will probably replace the circuit board . . . to see if that works

Warsw1, yes tried that, I should have noted. Water flows out of the pressure relief valve, but not hot.

Rob, I checked the control board visually and nothing noteworthy. But I suspect you are correct and will take to the dealer.

The problem has been found. We replaced the circuit board on the water heater and we now have hot water!!

Did you replace the circuit board yourself or use a dealer. We full time and cannot take our home to a dealer.

We replaced ourselves. It is very simple, unplug the harness and another piece, then remove and replace. We ordered from amazon, if memory is correct it was about $100.

If you give the bill to Grand Design, they probably will pay it.

Yep. I’m on my third water heater board. Last repair guy told me that Dometic had a problem with Chinese boards and had switched suppliers. I’ve also hear people switch to something called a Dinosaur Board. No idea what that is.
