    Reflection 295RL Carrying Capacity question

Hi - My wife and I are thinking about buying the Reflection 295RL. We are first timers and thought a lighter weight fifth-wheel might be easier to pull as our first foray into RV'ing. The 295RL is listed as having a UVW of roughly 8,500 lbs and a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. That would would mean that the carrying capacity is 1,500 lbs. If there are any Reflection 295RL owners out there - is 1,500 lbs of carrying capacity adequate or do you have a challenge getting under the 10,000 GVWR? Also, we plan on taking trips in the two to three week duration, if this helps.
(any other thoughts on 1,500 lbs of carrying capacity would be appreciated!)

    Thanks, Dave

    Hi Dave!

I think, as long as you use a little common sense, you won't have much trouble staying under 10K lbs, loaded for a 2-3 week trip. By the way, your available CCC will likely be more like 1300 lbs, since I don't think the UVW includes propane ( and a couple of other things).

Travel with minimal water, fill up when you reach your destination.

Fiesta Ware is really pretty, but paper plates and plastic cups weigh a whole lot less.

Just because you're going to be camping for 3 weeks doesn't mean you have a carry food for 3 weeks from home. Walmarts are (just about) everywhere.

You should also check that you won't be exceeding the payload rating of your truck. A 10K fifth wheel will probably put +/-2K lbs on the pin, plus there's whatever you carry in the pickup.

    Dave

Until we went full time I always figured a 1k lbs and that included propane, batteries and all the stuff we took with us. I always carried about 10 gals of water and the hot water tank was full. When you are just using your RV for short trips even as long as a month you really don't carry that much. You will find that you carry as much stuff for a weekend as you will for two weeks. Maybe a few extra clothes but all the rest of the stuff is the same.

My wife and I just got our 295RL, and to be honest I can't really envision coming close to loading up 1500 lbs of stuff in the trailer. It might be different for someone traveling for an extended period of time, but for trips lasting for a couple of weeks I would think you'd be OK.

On a side note -- we are very happy with the 295RL. Plenty of room for the two of us and it seems pretty easy to tow, set up, etc.

Dave - while we do not have a 295RL, the 295RL is nearly identical to our 303 relative to storage design/space (a little less) and with the exception of the wardrobe slide as well. Thought sharing our real world weights would be of some value so we completely unloaded all the normal items we carry in and out and the weight was 850#s as detailed in this thread:

    https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...ht=compartment

There were several items we never used in four seasons and some we rarely used. Reducing by another 100#s would be easily obtainable by addressing this and exchanging heavy dishes, bowls, cups, etc. for lighter weight items.

In addition to what Dave referenced in his post #2 about propane, the factory UVW does not include battery.

I would encourage you to look at some real world weight stickers on a/some 295RLS to see some actual UVW and CCC #s as well. Here is a copy of ours from our 303:

Thanks to all of you for the great input. Based on your comments, I should be under the GVWR without much problem. Now I just need to buy it and figure out where I'm going to store it!

Like work expands to use the available time, RV stuff expands to fill all the available space.

I had about 1000# of stuff in my last fiver and, knowing I was going to have a weight problem, only loaded the necessary stuff - which weighed about 1,600 lbs.

Any guy who has been maried more than two weeks knows that our dear wives don't comprehend weight limits. (And speaking as the well fed guy that I am, I'm glad they don't.)
