Actually, a portable Progressive Ind EMS is more like $337 and I take my chances. If I was concerned about it walking off, I'd camp elsewhere. And I've left enough stuff behind that I check pretty closely before I pull out of a site. I like being able to check the power at the pedestal rather than at the end of my power cord and I don't want to shut down my RV when the EMS does its job and has to return to the mother ship for repairs - BTDT.

Different strokes - that's why they make different versions of EMS.

I would like to know what the advantages are of having a hardwire vs. a portable outside of the security advantage.

I am genuinely concerned with what happens when you have something go wrong with the power that requires the unit to be serviced. Seems to me that the trip would be over at that point. At least with a portable, I can still power the RV with an alternate power source.

You can use bypass mode on the hardwired one of it trips. However, remember if it trips he or portable, you probably don't want to use the power source until the issue is fixed.

That’s why I indicated “alternate power source”. I usually carry my portable generator with me.

Hardwired can stop open neutral caused by faulty power cord connection into the RV.

Hard wired works with an alternate power source. Either use an Edison plug or bypass

I'm not sure what table you used to to determine the "45" amp rating of the 6/3 with ground SOOW, but that's not correct...it should read 55 amps. And yes, is much easier to work with
