So I tried the new site and I have a few observations. But first I have a question......

    Why change?

    OK. So now onto feedback.....

I don't like that one can't simply press "New Posts" after logging in (or new posts in the last 'n' days). To me this is the most useful item on any forum (at least for me). I use that on all the other sites I am a member of. It is the FIRST PLACE I go to. I sign on daily and my first interest is what's new. I don't like having to look that individual forums to find what is new since the last time I logged in; that seems too time consuming to me.

I don't care if I see what is trending or what is the most active, or what's the latest. But at least that stuff can be ignored (al-be-it at the cost of screen real estate). I tried pressing "View All" on the Latest Topics and it was vague as to how long the 'latest' topics went back in time (but I didn't bother to check the dates the posts were made as it seemed too laborious).

I don't see where the search function is any better (or worse) but most forums don't such great search functions to begin with. So I suppose it doesn't much matter old software vs. new.

Cosmetically speaking - the top right that displays notifications, messages and login name seems grey and fuzzy. They are more prominent on the old software. Not a big deal - just an observation.

Not sure what to make of the "Tag Cloud". Can't select multiple tags to narrow results so it seems it isn't much different that just using the search function. And, again, it cost screen real estate space.

Well, there you have it. It's great the forum owners/moderators are interested in improvements and can keep an open mind to all the feedback they get. I wanted to add some good things I found but, to be honest, I don't see any improvement in the old forum/system/software.

No matter what I am sure I'll continue to use the forum as a new owner and I hope to continue to contribute (positively). Please don't interpret this as an endorsement of the new software/forum - as insinuated in my original question I don't see why there needs to be a change (but I am relatively new to the forum).

    Chris,

I know I already commented and mentioned the “new post” option that was missing. It appears the majority have commented about using that option, and concerned that it may not continue. I am one of those, as that is my go to always, unless I need to find a past item or answer questions I know have already been discussed, etc. If the new post, or equivalent option is included, I can likely get used to the rest of the new format. Thanks for listenening.

Have you guys tried the Latest Activity button? That shows you what the recent activity is, and you can filter it to your liking. Does that not do the same thing?
    Thanks

Okay, I tried it with the filters and it resembles the new posts, but it doesn’t appear to filter out the ones already read. Is that correct? If so one would have to click on each entry for the last day, week, or whatever filter you use to see if anything new has been added.

Separate question, is there a way to see posts that you have responded to (as you can now), or ones that you want to follow?

We change because there are new features that others want. There are no further developments on the former versions of VBulletin, only on this Version 5. I can look for modifications, or pay for a developer, but this platform is pretty solid so far. I guess the question I ask is: why not change?

Search will remain roughly the same until I add a new search mechanism. If you haven't tried the different templates, scroll down the bottom and see if there is another one that you like. They are on the lower left of the window.

The customization and ability to modify things easily are other huge improvements over the current one. Mobile improvements are also huge.
    Thanks

I just poked around a bit. I am using an android phone. I didn't see pictures that were posted. I also didn't see where I could respond to a thread.

It would also be nice to be able to post pictures from the android phone as well.

Chris - On the Posts tab, post # shows up but on the Latest Activity tab it goes away. Is there another way to see Posts in reverse chronological order? I do like that the original post/question is first. This might help keep discussions from wandering . . . but . . . some of the most interesting discussions are where we wander off to . . .

As the forum content grows, I think a really functional search tool is very important.
I do find the new format a little awkward to work with, but I can adapt.

No, it doesn't. You can only select the time frame (All Time; Today, Last Week; Last Month). And what you want shown (All; Discussions only; Photos only; Videos only; Links only; Polls only; Events only - you can only choose one).

Closest I could come to New Posts would be selecting "Today" and "Discussions only". But it doesn't come up with the same threads that I can see here on New Posts. And the results are in no particular order.

Okay. I am taking it to VB for their guidance. I know that is a big one. Let me see what we can do to make sure we have that functionality.
    Thanks

So I have clarification. They are the same, but the new one is an enhancement of the old one. Comparing the test site to this site will not yield the same results due to the fact that the test site is static. It's a snapshot from a couple of days ago, and not kept current with the posts from this forum. On the test forum, it will show you what was current, and the stuff that I have been testing as well.

The filtering is nice because if you have been off of the site for a month (shame on you) and wanted to see what was new from just the past week in the forums, you can do that. If you only wanted to see blogs from the last month, you could do that too. Or you can say show me everything, and it is the same as the new posts on this version of the forum. I hope that clarifies things a bit.

What it is missing is a Mark All Read button, but i have found a workaround for that. It will be part of the main site promotion.
