    Awing questions

    Hey guys,
I have had electric awing before on my jayco. I would not pitch the awing for rain. It would self dump as needed, as long as you have it flat to a two hole difference pitch. This awing was a little bit different design then the newer style ones and actually looked a little more robust. The awing on the GD is a little different. It has two screw knobs on ethier side of the awing.
    My questions are

Does the awing needed to be pitch in the rain?

Does it do a self dump of pooled rain water?(while pitch or not)

    Thanks

I've use two screw knobs to set the pitch, but I can't get them to hold after 30 minutes or less the spring tension forces it back up. . . .

Go ahead and use the screw knobs to pitch it for rain. It does not dump automatically. Just be sure to loosen the knobs prior to retracting the awning. And yes, they are not very robust. Do not leave them open in any moderate or hard wind.

Yes, pitch them for water runoff as needed.

They ARE self dumping, that's why they have the hydraulic spring cylinders on them, to dump, then return.

The first time we had ours in a good rain I was surprised to see one side pitched by itself. Just make sure the knobs aren't tightened.

See if I got this right.

Self dumping if knobs are left loose.

If knobs are tight for a pitch will it self dump as well?

I have a similar awning on a different trailer.

Last month I had the awning out to give me some cover in a light rain while greasing the axles. The knobs were tight and it started to rain without any pitch. The rain pooled up in a giant puddle and eventually the weight over powered the knob and dumped a huge amount of water off the awning.

Scared the S out of me but didn't damage anything. I was shocked it didn't damage the awning or rip it. I didn't do it on purpose but it was a learning experience.

When we are out camping I always loosen one knob, put some pitch in it and re tighten the knob so the pitch stays all weekend
