Travel with Pets
We have recently retired and are getting ready to start RV'ing with our two dogs. It appears that several of the National Parks do not allow dogs on the trails. We would appreciate information on options for taking care of our dogs while we are away. Thanks!

Hi.....We have been at camp grounds that require people to have proof their dogs have rabies shots. They won’t let you camp there without proof. We carry a copy from the vet showing the pets shots are good. Just thought I would share this.

Almost all NPs don't allow dogs on trails. If your dogs are used to being alone in the RV and don't bark constantly plus you have hookups to run the AC or heat as needed and leave a television on for background noise they'll likely be fine for a daytime trail trip. Some people have problems with leaving the dogs inside alone for 8 hours...always wondered if they get up in the middle of the night to let them out to pee if 8 hrs is to long ??
If you're overnighting on the trail ask the locals where the prefered boarding is in the area.
Many areas have doggy day care as another option.
Also some dog rescues that aren't over filled may do daily boarding as well. We have missed a thing or 10 because of having dogs with us. One dog we can't board he doesn't do well caged up due to being severly claustrophbic, but he is just fine in the trailer. Traveling long roadtrips with no dogs just seems weird to me, like something is missing so we just roll with missing things if we have to.Marcy & Gary

We camp in national parks with our dogs. They stay in the trailer when we are out and about and if I am worried about noise, I leave a 12V fan running that is pretty loud to drown out outside noise. The campgrounds usually have enough real estate around them to still get in good walking opportunities for the dogs.

We use http://www.rover.com to find reliable dog sitters if we're going to be gone for a long day.

Thanks! I guess the biggest thing is to get them familiar with the campground environment. I will check out the website today!
