    Don't Take it for Granted

As you most of you know, I've been yearning to get in to a Momentum. Been waiting for a key piece to happen (that was promised 2 years ago when we started looking) to take place at work for it to happen. I often grow frustrated when I think about it.

Today I was sitting and talking with my Administrative Assistant (who immigrated from Hungary), just about random stuff, future plans, vacations, etc. One topic was how pictures never do justice for places you see while you travel across the country. Case in point, I told her about a stretch of road we traveled (pulling the Jayco Whitehawk we currently use) up the I-15 through AZ. I said it was remarkable how beautiful this canyon is that you drive through, then you pop up on this plateau in to UT and see these beautiful red mountains, and as we traveled further down the road I was thinking to myself, "What did I do in life to be able to witness stuff like this." She replied back with, "Oh it's mine and my husband's dream to be able to RENT an RV one day and travel to see different states."

So that's when it sunk in. Here I am complaining about that I'm not in the trailer I want, but have one to use, and get to go camping around every other month with my family. On top of that, I had the ability to fly out my niece and nephew from Nebraska to California, take them to an amusement park, show them Las Vegas, Hoover dam, and take them on a road trip from Southern California to South Dakota. Whereas here I am talking to someone who has the dream to rent something and do that one day. Do I have trailer I want? No. But it will happen sooner than later. But I'm already introducing my son and daughter to camping and and everything that comes with that. I'm a lucky S-O-B.

    Don't take it for granted.

Absolutely agree Curtis. Deb and I recognize that all the time. We are truly lucky.

I couldn't have said that better myself. Sometimes we all need to reflect on how GOOD we have it.

I agree completely! We all have a lot to be thankful for. The key is taking time to realize how good we actually have it. My wife and I are really new to camping, started last June and have had some really good times. We have been married for 45 years and realize just how lucky we have been.

Wife and I talked at length while looking. We had a perfectly serviceable Shamrock hybrid, only 4 seasons old, perfect condition, yet we were looking for something different. Yeah, the beds weren't real comfortable and the canvas tent ends were cold in the fall, but it was way better than our 2 popups and infinitely better than the tent we started in.
    Almost feel greedy.
    But we love our Imagine.

Well said, Curtis. Some of you "old-timers" on the forum may know my story and why my handle is Second Chance. I had a complete reset on how I see life and the world to the point that I now sometimes feel guilty when I see or read news articles about people who don't have health care, are homeless, or struggle to feed their kids - much less send them to college or take a vacation! I have gotten much better at accepting and appreciating where I am in life and I'm more focused on relationships and the people I love. In our house, we say, "The rest is just logistics" and are extremely grateful for what we have been given.

I truly think that we are quite fortunate to be able to be doing what we are doing. I know how fragile our situation is, we could lose everything in a blink. But life has prepared me well for this, think of a tragic event in someone's life and i have probably lived through it. Life is hard, that's why I appreciate the good times.

Another good point, pictures never do it justice. I started out wanting to make a graphic record of our adventures. Took thousands of pictures, distilled the first years photo shoot into a slide show to present to guests and relatives. Pretty much I just put people to sleep. They had no context for the photos. So now I keep my few photos only so my brain can recall a particular place more easily and then fill in the blanks.

We too are quite fortunate and thankful. I retired 2016 after 42 years 7 months, during that time I lost a number of friends, most were my age or younger that never got to enjoy retirement or their grandkids. Shortly before we retired my wife lost her younger sister who had just turned 50, losing her made us realize just how blessed we are. . . . . .

We don't take any of this for granted. It can be snatched away in a heart beat. We're in the do it while you can camp and don't want to look back saying we wished we would of . No one knows what tomorrow will bring.
And we are happy as hell that we are living the dream as they say , and doing it in the comfort of our 303 and not our old canvas tent! I couldn't have even lift that old beast of a tent up into the truck any more LOL
