Tow ball - To grease or not to grease?

    Hi all,
Asking an age old question, grease the tow ball or not? I never have used grease but had someone bend my ear the other day saying I should. I thought I'd ask the experts on the GD Owners Forum!

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

I grease mine every time I hook up. The hitch ball will last longer if lubricated.

I grease mine as well. When not in use, I use a hitch ball cover to keep from getting grease all over the place.

What do you recommend for grease? Why don’t they tell you his stuff when you buy a camper? I’ve only been towing since last June and nobody has ever said anything about greasing the hitch ball.

Light coat of any grease or oil. Slice a tennis ball and stuff over it when not in use to keep grease off of pants legs.

When I towed a bumper pull. I used scraps of soap on the ball.

Kept it lubed and never had to worry about the grease spots on pants or hands.

Steve - curious, what do you all recommend or suggest at Schaeffer's regarding the OP's question ?

No need to over think this. Any grease is better then no grease. If you are running dry, any turning or suspension movement is causing metal to metal rubbing between ball and hitch coupling and slowly grinding metal away. Just a thin layer is all you need.
