Show me your German Shepherds

Here is our two German Shepherd's named Sadie and Myla that love camping as much as us. If I start to hook the camper to the truck they go nuts. The only downfall to camping for them is they dont get to run much and chase balls and frisbees.

I can’t show these pictures to my wife or I’ll have another dog at home.

We’ve personally had 4 German Shepherds. Smartest and most loyal breeds.

Here’s a picture of us dog sitting for a friend’s 8 month old GSD female and their 2 Jack Russel dogs earlier this month in our trailer. We also had our Jack Russel in the trailer for a house full of dogs. We get to do this again in another 2 weeks when our friends need to travel out of town for medical treatment.

Jerryr, I agree that the GSD is one great breed. I would have a hard time giving her back after dogsitting her!!!

I inherited my daughter's dog, and I assumed a Rottweiler was also a German dog. No, they are Italian herding dogs. The German Army rebred them in WWI to the dogs they are today. They are not commonly used in police work because they require much more rest between chasing down perpetrators than a German Shepherd.

The German Shepherds used in police work are often bred in Germany and they are much lighter weight dogs than American bred shepherds. They sure are smart and well trained.

About every restaurant we go into in Germany has a shepherd lying in the corner. And they are remarkably well behaved.

Bamaman is correct regarding Rottweilers becoming tired after chasing crooks. I had a Rotty for my first K9, and the heat just killed him during searches. After a year, I changed (kept the Rott at home) for a Shepherd. I ended up with a second Shepherd as I lost the first one due to illness after a few years. My last one was definitely the best K9 I had. His work drive was out of this world. Unfortunately I only worked with him for three years or so before I changed assignments. He did not like staying home when I went to work, but my wife liked having him home with her.
