Buy good American made iron, if you can find old used pots even better!

I love my iron, don't use the DO as often any more and quit taking the the 14" since we don't do as much group camping. But nothing beats cooking in cast iron!

L V Naturist -- if you ever get to the west side of Colorado look me up and I will buy you a beer (or 2). We do have full hook-ups on our huge cliff-side patio.

I have some great memories of cast iron cooking (mostly dutch oven) as a scout and scoutmaster. All the cooking was done with either on the fire or briquettes. Cooking 3 high, with the desert on top. YUM

Good tips above. Hot water and veggie brush. We use our cast iron a lot. A cast iron stove to oven ribeye is imo, better than charcoal.

We bought some burlap bags off amazon to store out cast iron in the RV. They sell different sizes. Wash them a few times and they work perfect

If you over season a cast iron pan/pot it can feel sticky. Place upside down in hot oven to melt off excess back to perfect

Now, this is interesting. I have a small cast iron skillet that WAS used to melt lead. I wonder if one can, and if so how one would "get the lead out", and make it safe to use??

I don’t think I’d try. A new skillet would be cheaper than lead poisoning

I have cast iron that is at least 75 years old.
I enjoy finding those all pots and restoring them.
