It has been a while since I've seen a thread on the problem on www.ford-trucks.com, but as I remember, the connector water intrusion problem caused the tailgate to randomly open and also shut down the tailgate camera. Kind of a problem if the fiver is close or the truck turns.

The connector under the panel was causing the panel to go dark as well as open the tailgate. The theory was the thump from releasing the parking brake was loosening a connector that needed to be tywrapped. I've not had either problem, just something else to be aware of.

I would be in real trouble trying to stay within those limits .

    Rob,

    Nah. You would adapt quickly.

As long as I limit my backing turns to less than 75 degrees there’s no issue.

There’s no chucking, it’s silent and REALLY EASY TO REMOVE WITH ONE HAND.

I really wanted the Andersen hitch but cost (no hitch at all in the truck) and the fact that backing in next to my house has a definite rise-run issue that I was not convinced I could get thru with the bed to rail clearance. Now that I have seen your pics...I am glad I went with the SuperGlide...even though it is compromising my ability to add an extra fuel tank. I don't need to remove my hitch for any reason so the increased weight of the SG is jacking me on payload...but piece of mind is priceless.

That said, I may end up with an AUH anyway someday. Just got to figure it all out but your pics helped a ton...thanks brotha.

Hi Jerry - I am just not sure that I could stay within 75 degrees or on level ground in the parks we visit . . . I always seem to be watching too many other things that are getting in my way . With my manual slider hitch, contact between the truck and the 5th wheel is just one less thing to worry about during parking maneuvers.

"Chucking" is an interesting discussion. To some this means "play" in the hitch and to others this means the back/forth up/down forces applied to the truck by the 5th wheel trailer. Brian (bertschb) has provided a great video of this motion on post #18 of this thread https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...-currently-use

I can certainly understand that the AUH removes all play from the connection between truck and trailer, but I can't imagine that this really solid connection somehow eliminates the push/pull of the trailer on the truck. I think some type of cushioning, either in the pin box or in the hitch would be required to isolate these forces.

Rob - AUH owners can't believe that a little chunk of rubber or even an airbag can cushion seven or eight tons of RV and don't understand why someone would add the unneeded complexity.

Rob Air Safe also makes Gooseneck hitches that have two airbags on them to help with the problem you mentioned.
