    Agua Caliente

We are heading out to Agua Caliente County Park near Borrego Springs next weekend. We use to always spend Thanksgiving there with the boys, but that was many years ago. This time we are going to drive to Borrego Springs and hike to some of the metal sculptures in the desert and hike into the Palm Canyon Oasis.

Plus a little Geo Caching throughout.

I know it's hard for English speakers not to type a "q" between an "a" and a "u," but it's Agua Caliente with a "g."

This gave me a chuckle. We do get used to the look certain words over time. The other night we were watching Wheel of Fortune (that proves we are retired) and a contestant lost a bundle by reading the answer to the puzzle as Flamingo Dance Lessons. I've never seen a Flamingo dance and the contestant was pretty shocked his answer was incorrect. Anyway just shows it's easy to miss the little things sometimes. Fortunately the meaning usually gets through.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Yeah... my wife is natively bilingual (missionary kid - born in Argentina, grew up in Costa Rica, as an adult lived 10 years in Spain and another 7 back in Costa Rica). On top of that, she has a master's in education and another in Spanish. I grew up in New Mexico and ended up with a decent accent, all the words my mother didn't want me to learn, but a pitiful vocabulary and I'm terrible at conjugation and can't do tenses. I get by with VERY little around our house, though. Laura seems to think that I'll absorb "proper" Spanish by osmosis and continual "impromptu education." This has been going on ten years... the jury is still out.

Since I'm always in hot water anyway, I refuse to go there.

Subtle and clever. We went there one year and I hated it. The pool is enclosed and I couldn't imagine getting in there with all those people (and kids). Yuck. I am anxious to get out to Borrego Springs for some camping again. I used to spend my time terrorizing the whole region with my Corvette club

Hey, my wife's family is from Costa Rica. She was born in Ohio although she didn't speak English until she started school so English is her second language I guess. You'd think that after 50 years of hanging around them I'd know a lot more Spanish than I do. I guess that osmosis thing doesn't work for me.
