No, not at all. Only power issues going up steep grades, like the Conejo Grade in Camarillo, CA or Cajon Pass in San Bernardino, CA. We have the exact same set up. Our take is to see how we like our Imagine 2950RL, how much we use it etc. If all works out, we will most likely move up to a 1 ton, 3500 or F-350. Trucks are a significant investment so we want to be sure we like the trailer experience before upgrading the truck.

Our Silverado works great. We have the Blue Ox weight distibuting hitch and keep the speed at 55 - 60 mph. Last trip was to Bishop, CA (500 miles RT) so we had to go up the Cajon Pass which is brutal. The throttle was floored and our speed peaked at 35 mph for a short time but we made it. That's all she had! Would have been nice to have a larger engine but i need the 5.3L for commuting to work. Otherwise, no issues!

    Talking

I would double-check how much weight is on the rear axle.

I never could get mine under the axle rating on my 2015 F-150 with the 5.0L V-8.

The best I could get was 200# over and that was with nothing in the truck but me, my wife and a Leer cap on the back.

That 2950RL has quite a bit more tongue weight than you might expect.

The truck pulled it, but it was not happy, thus, my new truck.

It is well worth the money and effort to switch to a one-ton diesel, when it becomes possible.

Now, the truck does the work, not me.

    I like that.

    Yikes!

I finally got the chance to measure the tongue weight on my 2950RL.

Fresh water tank 3/4 full, battery and two full LP tanks.

    1500#!

Thank goodness my hitch is rated for 1500#, but I hate to run at the max., so some emptying of fresh water seems in order.

Grand Design needs to stop advertising this thing as 1/2-ton towable, since most (if not all) 1/2-tons come with a Class IV hitch - which maxes out at 1000# tongue weight.

    Be careful!

That's crazy right? That's what I had with my 2950 RL last year. It actually dropped my F250 in the rear more than the fifth wheel does now and the tongue weight is pretty close! That is an awesome trailer and floor plan but I agree, no way I'd pull it with a half ton!

    Absolutely!
I did a test of our 2950RL and a full fresh water tanked added 240# to the tongue weight. Normally we run around 1200 - 1250# tongue weight fresh water tank empty depending on how long we will be out.

Now that we have been on the road more and are using / loving the trailer. We're begining to look at bigger trucks now. The tongue weight is troubling.

Just throw all the heavy stuff on the floor of the pantry, under the sink and on either side of the sofa.

You'd be amazed at how much that can unload the front.

You are going to LOVE the automatic Jake Brakes.

Throw a Hensley on it and you won't even know it is back there.

We breezed through Arizona and New Mexico without realizing we were in 35 m.p.h. cross-winds until we stopped for a stretch.

I kept wondering why all the semi trucks and RVs were wandering all over the road.

Stepped out of the truck, nearly got flattened by the wind, THEN noticed all the vegetation was lying on its side.

Ooooooh, so THAT'S why they were all over the road.

    Oops!

You are going to LOVE that truck.

    Stay safe!
