Finally got some boondocking in! Great site on the Snake River.

Only took till Oregon to get out of winter and be able to boondock without worrying about freezing. Found this site on Campendium, didn't have any reviews, so went off the satellite view to see if we could at least get in. Glad we took the chance, had a great stay and we're finally able to get a campfire in!

Wheel Gulch in Hutchinson, OR. Also known as Catfish Corner according to a regular. May or may not be BLM, he said he thought it was private that allows boondocking.

Great pics. Looks like the kids are enjoying themselves too.

There is a lot to see in the area. The Eastern Oregon Museum in Haines, Oregon is interesting. Looking at the web site, it's not open to Memorial Day but there is stuff to see outside the place. There is lots of ghost towns in the area too. Sumpter and Granite are worth looking at too. Baker Oregon is a very old town also.

Clyde Holliday State Park near John Day, Oregon is a nice park and has bigger sites.

Wow! Great views. I'm trying to convince my wife we that we can have some nice views and an enjoyable experience bookdocking. With our 3 kids and my need for a 10 min shower daily, we'd be limited to no more than 3 days before we'd have to dump, but 3 days is 3 days. I'd be fine with that. Just have to convince the wife!

We did check out the Oregon Trail museum. That was a really interesting one for us being as we left our lives back east, loaded up our wagon to live out of and headed west along a lot of the same route as they took on it. Granted we did have the luxuries of paved roads, plenty of food and no worries of dysentery. We did though witness the landscapes that they had to cross and even dealt with challenges such as snow and bone chilling cold, challenges finding water and our wagon broke a couple of times. It's truly amazing though the fortitude that those folks had back then, mucho respect! Same with the ones that stayed back in the Appalachians where we are from, those were some tough folks as well.

Guess I'm lucky, soon as we pulled in my wife said that's exactly what she's been waiting for!

The Oregon Trail museum is very well done. Imagine only traveling maybe 10 miles a day.

    What direction next?

Wouldn't want to imagine hardly making any progress like that, especially through the flat sagebrush where the view never changes!

Our next direction change will take us north to the Olympic Peninsula where we will hang out for a little while.

Traveling on the east side of the Cascades "should" be dryer then the west side. It will be cooler at night.

Leavenworth, Wa. is an interesting town. Very scenic area too. The town is set in a Bavarian theme. Even McDonald's. It's a tourist trap, but done very well.

    Safe travels, KEN
