    Black Tank

New guy question here. After I empty the black tank and flush it should I go ahead and treat the tank or wait until we go out again and drop the chemical in right before use?

I add about a cup of dishwashing liquid, followed by a few gallons of water. This helps to keep the remains from solidifying.

We don't use chemicals. Google the GEO Method.

    ^^^^^^ X2

Lots of water. No chemicals. An occasional cap of liquid laundry soap and my sensors even work (most of the time).

    Thanks for the info.
I looked that method up and it looks like people have great success with it. I like the idea of cleaning more than just masking. I have a new unit so maybe if I start that method now it will stay clean.

That is certainly a relative statement. Big thing is to never leave the black water tank completely open, leave it closed, dump, close it back up. Think of it as a septic tank, it requires some fluid in it to keep things moving along. I have pretty much quit putting any additives in my tank, but then it never sits idle either.

The funny thing is at the dealer when we were doing the walk through my wife asked about using regular household cleaners on the toilet, and they said “Oh No Never Do That”. They said only the tank treatment designed for rvs. Then they tried to sell us some “special toilet cleaner”. I later told my wife that there are no household cleaners ,that when used properly, would harm a porcelain bowl or the plumbing. I have been in residential construction for several years and have never seen a toilet or plumbing pipe damaged by cleaners.
