Maybe it's time for us to set a gathering for New York State. I'm willing to work with some others in setting it up, but we'd need to start now for 2019 and see how many are interested. Not knowing how to set up groups, I'm willing to try. Anyone else willing to help?

We live in Vermont and would like to see a get together in NY. I know this is a New York group thread but I grew up in upstate New York so does that count?
I might be able to help if you let me know what you need.

We live in Southern Pa, (Philadelphia area). We would be interested in a New York gathering. Finger Lakes area or Thousand Island area sounds good.
I'll keep a track on this thread.

Thanks for your reply! I really have no idea what to do - maybe we need to see how much interest we have and then choose a campground and see what's available so we can set a date and reserve campsites, set a program (?) and then do some kind of registration, etc. I really don't want to do this alone and I can use some kind of guidance and help. If you're interested, maybe we can get some others to help and we can do something. I really don't want to set something up and have it "bomb" as that would really kill it. However, if we do something that can have some guarantee of success, this can grow! What are your ideas?

Hi fingers You are on the right track. Need to narrow down interest and a area and a time frame. Looks like 3 of us have an interest, also there was a lot of people may have viewed this post.

nyfingerlakes - We tried to figure out something like this between New York State and Ontario, a few years ago. The problem was finding a campground that could hold 20 or so sites without a firm commitment, somewhere in July or August. The best offer we got was in the Niagara Falls area in early June . . . and it was going to be expensive! July/August is their prime season and many campgrounds are seasonal site rentals in this timeframe. I think the first step would be to find a location. I would aim for 20 participants as a first guess. June could work for us.

June might be good and we really need to get commitment - 20 sites might be a stretch this early, but I'm willing to go for that. Niagara Falls area is expensive - perhaps the I-81 corridor or going slightly east / west from the I-81 / I-90 cross. Turning Stone in Oneida is a good size and very good sites along with the casino draw for those interested. I believe they also have a pavilion for groups - we were there earlier this year but I don't remember positively about that from our walk around the campground, but it's a start of an idea. At this point, we need to look broadly at many campgrounds to see what is possible. Further discussion is needed - my email is [email protected]. John & Carol, Cate & Rob, we are Lorna & Eric. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good outcome, but let's keep talking.

Hi Folks,
Turning Stone is a lovely spot, right off I90; however, you might have difficulty getting a weekend. We were there for a work week in October and they had nothing available to allow us to stay beyond Friday ( we even offered to change sites-they were all booked). Everyone is really nice there, very helpful, lots of amenities, and they are constantly collecting the trash and grounds keeping. Rates are extremely reasonable, especially considering all they offer. Perhaps if we tried to book now for next summer you’d have better luck getting a weekend. Check out the website, under accommodations, it is listed as The Villages at Turning Stone. Quarter mile SW of the casino complex on Rt. 365. Shuttle on call (free), as they want to afford you every opportunity to spend money at the restaurants/casino.

P.S. Eric, yes, there is a large pavilion just beyond the playground and pool. Also, one of the “villages” (cul-de-sac) has a large, communal fire pit.Bruce and Nancy
