His longevity ribbon has 3 clusters on it. 4 years completed for the ribbon and 4 more years completed for each cluster IIRC.

That is correct. I actually retired at 18 years and 9 months, so I didn't get the 4th cluster. This was October '93 and the military, under President Clinton, was drawing down (Reduction in Force). They were offering an early retirement as long as you served at least 15 years. Your retirement pay was adjusted accordingly, so instead of getting 50% at 20 years, I get 47 point something %.

Interesting reading.
USAF 1968-1972. Security Police, mixture of security and law enforcement. Tyndall AFB 1 yr, Danang Viet Nam 1yr, left Danang in the middle of summer and was sent to Minot ND in the middle of winter, you know how the government is LOL. No regrets but I was ready to get out.

Enlisted at the ripe old age of 17. Originally volunteered for overseas assignment, but typical government wisdom sent me there for 4 years.

Joined USAFR after 9/11, spent 8 yrs voluntarily active, flying C-5’s (when they worked) all over the world. Been a traditional reservist ever since. Recently moved units up to McChord. 4 years left till retirement and then I get to see what it’s like to only have 1 job! ;-)
