    Hi Brian,

What if you were to do this in the reverse order . . .

Have an independent shop install the disc brake system first which usually goes for about $2500 installed.

Then, have the MORryde installer transfer your disc brakes to the new suspension . . . which should also reduce the $5500 quote since they don't have to supply new backing plates and drums.

    Just a thought . . .

In keeping with this forum's mission of helping you spend your money, look at it this way.

The cost of the disk brakes are about what your deductible would be. The first time you stomp on the brake pedal and feel the ABS pulsing, you'll consider the trailer brakes paid for.

We all have our priorities. Personally, I’d opt for the disc brakes. It’s great to have a smooth ride ... it’s better to stop more efficiently. Better yet, why not take the coach to MoRyde and get both things done?

If I lived 2,000 miles closer, I would for sure!

    Hi Rob

Not a bad idea. That would reduce the cost. But, with the recent posts from folks sharing stories of broken hangers and springs, I'm more concerned about my suspension failing right now. I wish I had a good excuse to drive to Indiana.

Hah! I'm actually on the Good Sam Trip Planner right now trying to modify a trip we've been working on for early next summer by adding Indiana as a stop. The easternmost point right now is Colorado. Is there anything interesting to see in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa or Missouri? I'm not trying to offend anybody. I've just never traveled to those states.

    Brian,

The brakes are more important from a safety perspective. If I were only going to do one, it would be the disc brakes.

Well, the installation is completed. Now have the IS, 8k axle, disc breaks and Sailun tires. All went pretty smoothly.
For those who may be headed to IN to get theirs done a few items of note.
    1. If you park outside the day before, be prepared to hook back up to your truck and move it for measuring. The mechanic will measure the clearance from your truck rails to the 5th wheel, the frame height from the ground to the frame in both the front and back, the axle height, and the overall truck height. They've got like a 10' level and will crawl up on top of the 5th wheel and place it on the highest point (front A/C unit in my case) and then drop a tap measure down and measure from the ground. GD stated the height was 13'6", my actual height was 13"0".

    2. You are not allowed to be in the bay area when they are working (safety reasons). You can go back to your 5th wheel and retrieve items if you need them (and peak and see how things are going).

    3. There is a lounge area where you can watch TV, which also has free WiFi, soda's, snacks (chips, crackers, breakfast cakes), and coffee. At around 1045 they come by with a menu for lunch. 1st day was Penerra Bread (we were out and about), second day was (humm can't recall) ... but it was an Italian restaurant and they had gluten free crust for pizza's and calzone's. Carla go a gluten free pizza and said it was very good, I got a calzone which was huge (got the 14" one) and excellent. Lunch is paid for by MoRryde.
    4. They have 50 amp service both outside and inside, but no water or sewer so come prepared. I asked and was told they have water available but filled up before I left the camp ground = much easier and didn't want to try and fill up there.
    5. It will take a full 2 days for the install (if you get all we got anyway). When staying in your rig inside the service bay, it is loud. You'll hear whistles sounding and forklifts beeping all night long. If you have dogs (we have 3) they'll probably bark every now and then adding to the noise so don't plan on getting much sleep.
    6. They start at 6 am and work till 2:30 pm, and finished up my rig around 1:30 on the second day. I had new tires mounted and had to reset my Ford trailer TPMS for them. i did all this in the bay before moving out, pretty easy operation, and there is a good video on YouTube explaining how to do it if you've got this system.
    7. Once hooked up you'll pull your rig around the block so the new suspension settles in. When you get back they will measure it one last time to make sure all is as it should be. If good to go your done.
    8. Oh yea, one other item ... you'll need to pay for the install. I opted for Timpken bearings vs. a Chinese bearing they install standard and that was $143 more. You also get a couple of MoRryde shirts = they'll ask for your shirt size. Total bill $6,863.75 (tax included).
    9. They suggested that I stop about 50 miles down the road and check the lug nuts on the tires to make sure they are tightened to 110 ft-lbs. When I stopped and checked with my torque wrench, each nut turned just a bit before hitting the 110 number.

On our first day we checked out the RV/MH Hall of Fame, and The Old Bag Factory. I'd recommend both to anyone headed up that way. Day 2 we just sat around the MoRryde lounge area and watched the snow fall (got about 2+ inches in all).

What I noticed right off the bat was how much harder the disc breaks grab. I had my break controller set to 9 for the drum breaks, and now have it set at 6.5. As you can see from the pictures, we got a bit of snow yesterday (our travel day) and were considering staying another night at the MoRryde outside parking area. After doing a recon of the roads, they were all cleared of snow though still wet so we decided to make the trip back to the campground at Camp Atterbury (where I work and we call home for now). After parking we checked the status of our rig inside and the pantry was all in order ... we had a few things fall off of shelves on the way up, so maybe the IS is providing a smoother ride.

Headed to southern IN today to visit my brother and sister in-law (about a 3.5 hr drive) so I'll get to see if our stuff stays on the shelves in the pantry again.

All in all, a very positive experience.
