New to me 2017 Solitude 310GK owner

Long time RVer but 1st ever 5th wheel. I like the coach but hate the ride towing and frankly regret this whole purchase. Hope to find some advice here to maybe change that. Signed up on iPad so will fill out profile and signature line when I get home.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of the problems.

After my first fiver, I've never looked back and couldn't imagine towing anything else. Quite literally, I tend to forget it is back there - its just that nice. With that said, there are a few things that can be tweaked. If you'll tell us what you're towing with and type of hitch, there's probably someone on this forum who has used the same configuration and can make some suggestions. What kind of problems are you having?

    Don't give up.

Thanks for the reply. Not trying to be negative just frustrated. Basically the trailer pushes and pulls the truck, quite violently at times, and generally terrible ride. Several 5vers including yourself say just that...."I don't even know its back there". I DEFINITELY know mine is back there lol. I posted in the towing forum and on a PullRite thread. Worse when going over bumps or uneven concrete. 2017 Solitude 310GK towed with a '04 Chevy Silverado 2500HD diesel. Put airbags on truck and it has Bilsteen shocks. Use a PullRite Superlite hitch. The dealer and PullRite of course say its not the hitch and maybe the truck. But I now read the Hitch is controversial. It is super easy to use.

Daveyator - Could you post pictures of the weight and tire labels on either the drivers door edge or the door frame? These numbers might help us understand what is going on between your truck and your Solitude. Also a picture of your truck hitched to the Solitude. Are both truck and 5th wheel reasonably level?

I'd add to Rob's list that it would be helpful to know your axle weights, both hitched and unhitched. The addition of air bags sounds like there may be a weight problem.

I've pulled equipment trailers that felt like they were controlling the truck and it isn't fun. All my fivers have been a delight to pull, though, so I'm sure there is a solution to your problem. (Just hope the solution isn't the dreaded "more truck.")

To me it sounds like axle alignment, suspension, or tire issues. Definitely need to go over spring attachment to frame and axles, equalizers could be bad. When axles and suspension are verified structurally OK, alignment check of ALL angles. I too would doubt hitch issues as long as it is properly secured to the truck. As Rob has noted, you are most likely at or over cargo weight for your truck, but that should not create the issues you are having!

Just read on iRV2 about Pullrite failure. Strongly suggest thorough examination of your hitch, I may be looking at an isolated incident, but we need to be sure.

Also proper LT tires on pickup at recommended pressure for max load. Does truck ride and handle well when not towing? Shock absorbers functioning well?

I owned a 310GK for while and my pin weights run from 3100 pounds lightly loaded to 3700 pounds load for a 30-day trip. It exceeds the GVWR/Payload of 2016 1 Ton Diesel truck when loaded for a 30-day trip so I would guess you somewhere north of 1000 pounds over the max GVWR/payload on your 2004 Chevy 2500.
