Dave - the hitch is controversial ? Please share where you read that......first time I have heard this in my over 4 years of use.

    Thanks,

Steve - which Pullrite hitch ? Can you share the link from IRV2 or do a cut and paste of the post(s) to a new thread on this forum ? Any pictures ?

    Thanks,

Wow lots of questions and thanks. I probably used the word controversial incorrectly but I was alarmed about my warranty by this thread. https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...h-Wheel-system. The large So Cal dealer I bought the hitch from service department says the Superlite is a terrible hitch and lots come back. Grand Design's own numbers are 12100 empty wt and 15000 gross 2310 hitch wt. The trailer life towing guide says an '04 Silverado diesel (i.e. mine) can tow a 15400 5th wheel. I fully realize that mfg specs are optimistic at best. I would call our trailer lightly loaded typically for a weekend or weeklong trip. Tanks empty except for maybe 1/2 fresh water which I keep meaning to drain down. My has truck has 89000 mi on it and looks nearly new including the underside. I put air bags on the truck to level the load a bit but in all honesty the truck never even bottomed when towing. Some of the requested pics. Next time I'm out I'll get hooked up pictures but the truck and trailer appear nearly level. I fully realize the truck may be too small but it seems unlikely that the Solitude line can't be pulled by a 3/4 ton truck. But hey thanks again for all the input and willingness to help.

We can all seat here and give you our best guess but still just a guess. To know for sure you need to loaded up your 5er as you would to go camping plus all the people and stuff in the truck you normally take with you. Go to a truck stop and pull on the scales and pay your 12.00 for getting weighed. You have three weighs - truck's front axle - trucks rear axle the 5er axles. Add together the front and rear axle that should less than what listed on you sticker GVWR of 9200 pounds. Now compare the rear axle weight and must be less than RAWR of 6084 and the front axle FAWR of 4706. I would guess you way over all your ratings but that is the only way you are going to know for sure. Ford uses a truck with zero options and pins weight of 15% for there ratings but in real life, the pin weight is normally between 22% and 23%. You will run out payload long before you run out towing capacity.

For what it's worth last year I bought a 2018 Solitude 310GK then bought the tow vehicle to match the trailer. After looking up all the weights and specifications I bought a 2017 GMC 3500HD Duramax SRW. Initially my idea was to go with a 2500HD but after purchasing the solitude and looking at the numbers I simply went with the 1 ton.
I know many probably purchase their trailer after the tow vehicle, but doing it the opposite way ensured I would have enough truck for the trailer I desired.
As many others have stated I barely know the solitude is back there.
I'm afraid you have too much trailer for your truck.

Dave - thanks, for clarifying it is the Superlite and not the Superglide of which many of us use.

Steve - Thank you - I recall that when it was "talked" about in various media forms a few years ago.

Here is detail weighting of my 310GK on 2015 F350 and how close I was on weights. I considered to be lightly loaded 310GK and If I was asked to guess how much we put in the 5er I would guess under 750 pounds. Fully loaded for a 30-day trip is was over GVWR and close to both axle and tire ratings. I was very surprised how heavy it was and end up trading both the truck and 310 for a motorhome with 5700 lbs in cargo capacity.

When we went from a 30’ bumper pull to our 320X fifth wheel, we noticed a difference. To be honest, our trailer pulled wonderfully and never had an issue towing it. We did notice some “porpoising” with the fifth wheel. Our 2016 Ram sits pretty high as do a lot of the new trucks. The fw was not level when towing . We decide to have it raised by about 4” and now it’s level and the porpoising has dropped by a lot. A level hookup makes all the difference. Good luck!
