greenjeans, suggestion, go to your trusted local tire shop and pay them to fix your trailer tire if possible, or let you know it is not safely repairable. Take bill to RV dealer. That would be safest.

greenjeans - x2 on Steve’s advice. A slow leak as you describe is often caused by a faulty valve stem . . . not the fault of the tire. But . . . running soft can definitely damage a tire. Ask the tire shop to remove the tire and examine it inside and out for signs of damage caused by running soft . . . even if the problem turns out to be the valve stem.

    cate,rob and steve,
    thanks
I hadn't planned on dragging the coach to the dealer to just fix a tire, just put that in the post to show the dealers perspective. Ha

No need to apologize. We all have different ways of interpreting the results of polls. I'm not aware of any way to modify a poll after it's submitted.

    Brian,

I think to track failures is a good thing since it gives us some feedback. Just didn't want to offend you by getting all statistical on the subject. It would be nice to know how many tire failures occurred with an active TPMS and if a CAT scale sheet was available before the failure. I have both. I suspect these failures would be few and for those without scale sheets and TPMS would only raise additional doubt in how the tire actually failed. Other than a flat that is caught early, the failure mode is impossible to understand without having some knowledge prior to the failure such as pressure and temperature.

I'm one of those who had a tire Westlake tire that shed it's tread and did quite a bit of damage to the trailer. The tire was still fully inflated after the failure, and I was running with a TPMS that showed no indication of a problem before it let loose. I also had individual wheel weights for the rig, and the tire was running several hundred pounds under it's rated max. The tire was also rated for 75mph, and I was running at 62. Once bitten, twice shy. I'll never run another Westlake tire on any of my vehicles.

    Jim,
I figured this would come up where its also part of the mix. I've seen the pictures where this is what we need in numbers. There is a gum strip on the tires that sometimes can be an issue from manufacturing which can result in this type of separation. To prove there is a defect, this type of information is needed which is why it would be nice to have this category in the poll. I'm not trashing or supporting Westlake tires, but we need much more information to begin building a pattern. I sold mine after two years without issue and moved to Goodyear Endurance for several reasons, but mostly that I did not like the D rated tires running at max load and pressure.

Just found the leak myself, it's a hole/crack in the rim. Disappointed the dealer didn't take the time to take the tire off and put it in a tub of water, instead of just airing it up. Can't blame the Westlake tire.

I had the same problem last year. There was a small hole in the wheel casting. I called Lionshead, downloaded their claim form, took a picture, and had my new wheel in two days. Outstanding customer service.

    Safe Travels.
